Man, did those songs get heavy rotation on our AM stations.
MWH's singer-songwriter and his brother were 2nd gen Ukrainians who grew up in Montréal (where theyvstill live, in fact). That's why you hear French interspersed in many of their songs, and references to Québecois cultural touchstones like Bonhomme Carnaval.
Amusing anecdote: In the early 80s, the singer happened to be spending the weekend in Ottawa's Byward Market. He went to a club and was dancing in a rather... let's say frenetic fashion, with his limbs spearing the air every which way and coming close to punching and kicking the other patrons on the floor. Some of them complained to the owner, who sent the bouncer to throw him out. When the singer asked the bouncer why he was being escorted out of the premises, he was told that the way he danced wasn't safe! Thus The Safery Dance came to be.

That was such a funny, wonderful show! Strangely, I watched all 3 seasons in South Korea in the late 90s, on Hong Kong's Star TV. My American neighbours were smitten with Paul Gross.
