All this is the music soundtrack to my uni years :D

As well as the above, I was more into the Shoegazing (which Britpop was, in many ways, born out of) stuff - Ride, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Blind Mr. Jones etc. as well as the stalwarts of The Cure, REM, U2 etc.

Ride were and are one of the most underrated bands of all time. Nowhere is a classic album and for Andy Bell to become Oasis' bass player is a crime.

My mate insists that Chapterhouse were the kings of shoegazing. I have no opinion but thought I'd give them a mention.

I like Chapterhouse but, imo, not a patch on the bands I mentioned.

Ride were the kings of the "loud" shoegazing (Nowhere was their masterpiece) and Slowdive the kings of the "slow" shoegazing. Most of Slowdive are still going but as Mojave 3 and solo (all rather different styles now and not shoegazing, mostly alt/folk/country type stuff, all very good mind.).

Didn't Andy Bell end up in Oasis after being in Ride? Or was it Gem?
