My Dad. I must have been 10 at the time. It was an evening game. I remember walking towards the ground, seeing the floodlights. They really seemed bright and it was awew inspiring for little old me. Walking under the bridge, hearing fans shout Seagulls, then turning the corner and going through the turnstiles in the South Stand.
Being ten, I was small, so my Dad allowed me to sit on the wall near the pitch. The grass looked immaculate and so cared for. I remember the noise of the crowd, the smell of smoke and naughty songs that I was not allowed to repeat. The "your going home in a Sussex Ambulance" stayed in the mind. Being allowed out way past my bed time. I think it was against Colchester, and i know we won, but cant think of the score.
That hooked me. My Dad is still alive, but doesnt go anymore. Shame. He would like the AMEX.
My Dad and I have an odd relationship. He think he found it hard to relate to Kids.........infact he still does over his grandchildren. But he pulled the rabbit out of the hat when taking me to the Albion. I'll always be grateful for that.
