A 32 yr old injury prone player who has not played consistant 1st team football for at least three seasons. Demands a very high salary.

For what?

Is he still a premiership player?

PS. This is not a please come to Brighton thread. I do not think he would be right for us, I do not think we could afford him and I do not think he would even consider us.

Someone will offer him a deal in the premiership. But its fair to say he has spent the last 3 years in horse racing rather than football. Total waste of a great talent.

I nearly mentioned him in the post, you are not wrong but I do not think he could be another Vicente. I do not think Owen is interested in playing regular football at any level. Just wants the cash.

I am firmly in the "not interested" camp (as in we shouldn't be) - even if he was interested (and he has said very clearly that he will not drop below the Premier League) it would take a much better squad than ours to carry him through a season. How many years is it since he played regular football?

If God is truly in his heaven and we still have Vicente then that will be more than enough for us to deal with

I do think he's made a mistake snubbing the Championship entirely. I honestly don't think he realises that he's not put enough work in over the last 3 years to earn first team football with a high salary in the Premiership.
I can only see him playing regularly at best for a bottom Premiership team on half his wage on a 1 year contract.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
He is and was never, ever coming to Brighton.

I think the most important thing is that Owen considers himself above the Championship.

Great. We need a bit of arrogance up front. Too many sweaty triers.

i thought he was on pay as you play, so hardly a high salary if he's unfit/injured/out of sorts, and well worth it if he does play.

however, the factor missed is location. he's settled up in Cheshire. he'll end up at some local mid table Premier club like Wigan or Liverpool, maybe venture as far as WBA.

Statement of intent if he ever did come here. That'll make a few headlines worldwide.

I don't for one minute think it would happen but I would not want him at Brighton. He is only interested in money and horse racing he has barely played for 5 years essentially he is no longer the Michael Owen of the past but a washed up has been who still thinks he is at the top of the pyramid. 3 years ago I would have bitten your arm off to have him but now he is not good enough for us.

He's good enough for us.............but, do we want some jumped up Johnny who thinks only the Prem is good enough for him, and nothing but megabucks will do? No, move on sunshine - find some other mugs. QPR might be stupid enough.

He is knackered. If he was a racehorse he would have been put down by now.

Once upon a time maybe, but that was then, not now.

An injured Michael Owen on crutches will bag still bag more goals than a fit you know who...

(And yes, before you ask, this is a :fishing: attempt)

I think if it wasn't for his racehorses he would be joining Mr Beckham in the US. The slower less physical game would suit him.

The only premier league teams that will be interested will be the ones nearer the bottom, they are more likely to play the target man/physical type striker rather than what Owen can offer. So no I don't think he can cut it in the top division any more.

To be honest I don't think he is good enough for the championship, it is after all a tough league without the prima donnas and referees protection.
