A not-quite-so-hypothetical question...

If I buy a return ticket from my Somerset backwater to Brighton and, on the way back, one train runs so late that I miss a connection, and it's the last connection of the night, effectively stranding me in Southampton, do I have any comeback on the railway?

Or am I just stuffed, and have to stump up for a hotel, if I can find one, before continuing the journey the next day?

...and that would apply to an 'Off Peak Return' ticket which used both First Great Western and Southern?

Will you be traveling from Bristol to every home game ?

43. Help from Train Companies if you are stranded
If disruption caused by circumstances within the control of a Train Company or a Rail Service Company leaves you stranded before you have reached your destination and the Train Company whose trains you are entitled to use is unable to get you to that destination by other means, any Train Company which is in a position to help will, if it reasonably can, either arrange to get you to that destination, or provide overnight accommodation for you.

Sort of, but I'm going to have a heady mix of transport arrangements that includes...

- train there and back on the day
- train there on the Friday or Saturday and back Sunday
- travelling down with family in the car and staying with friends or family for the whole weekend.

Stay down here for the night and that way you won't be stressing about having to leave the party to get your train. The offer's still there of a bed for the night and a birthday meal out!

Depends but generally they would get you a taxi from the nearest point you can get to by train to whatever station you need to get to. But check the connection times at the station you wish to change at as if is less than the minimum connection time then they will class it as your fault and you're on your own.

Would if I could! You'll get your wicked way with me one night.
