Yep. Sorry if that isn’t what you wanted to hear! I just don’t see this as a problem, new low or whatever way it’s described. System in this country is rubbish value for money but I choose to work in London or wherever. No one forces me. I think changing your mindset to viewing the public transport timetables as aspirational and even when on time as potentially already full certainly helps. We seem to accept this on the roads after all. Sure if any of us could be bothered to read the t&c then that’s what they say anyway.

Govia’s ‘rules’ on dealing with evidently pregnant women probably aren’t politically driven........neither is the wanky attitude of their staff in enforcing them.

The railways service has been shite for all the time I’ve been commuting.

I can confirm that after over 30+ years of commuting on the Brighton mainline the railways have always been shite whether operated by a private company or when it was a nationalised concern.

No it's not. It's because you're being a bit silly and have got your knickers in a such a knot over nothing that still, approaching 50 posts, you're boring us all with tiresome phoney outrage.

Here's the news in brief: Pregnant woman entering 1st class refused entry...because she's not paid for...but gets seat anyway.

The real issue here is that you shot your bolt at the end of chapter 1, before appreciating the significance of 2 and 3 - like some junior 'hack', eager to impress, who runs off to report a 'sensational' story only to be told (rightfully) by the fat wily old cigar smoking editor (that's me in this instance) that, respectfully, there's no real story here son. I was travelling home from work from East Croydon and the train turned up late, less coaches than normal and almost full when it arrived. I got on and ended up,standing in first class. A jobsworth battled his way through checking tickets and suggested I move elsewhere as standing in first class was not permitted. I politely suggested he f*cked off and he was about to get nasty when all the people around me suggested various things he could do. He backed off saying we would be charged extra when we got to Brighton, needless to say nothing happened at Brighton! Pity nothing has changed. 1st class travel on rush hour trains should be removed.

Unfortunately some **** tried to make it political almost from the off, although this story is about poor customer service and a lack of common sense and decency. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hmm, guess the expletive was aimed at me. I still stand by my belief that the railways are run for profit, above all else, and that it was the Tories who sold this particular national treasure, to release the country of the “burden” of providing a decent cheap rail service.

The sale instead allowing big corporations to take over the running of what should be a state run industry and make money out of the users with little regard to the final users, the passengers. The story isn’t just about poor customer service, which undoubtedly it was, but also about the way the railways have been allowed to operate.

I would also have made the same initial comment if the story had involved the gas and electricity services or any other former nationalised industry that was sold off...

Just a shame you felt the need to call me out with the 4*s, as looking at the thumbs on my post others here clearly agreed with me.

Shit customer service can happen anywhere and anytime, in industries that have never had the sniff of state ownership or sell-off.

I really don't see that this story has anything to do with profit at all. And I'm sick of people jumping on threads on here to try and push their particular political agenda. It's dull, tiresome and in most cases I see, there is little if any validity to their poorly constructed point.
