Given we shelled out the 3rd most in the league on agent fees (£7.5M) last season we obviously don't mind splashing out to intermediaries if we have to

FWIW I think Albion we were actually the 3rd fewest in the EPL

You want to change jobs so you go to two interviews. One says we can pay you this salary, the second one matches it.

Do you say, I'll accept the job from the firm who pays my parents a big wedge?

Well for starters it’s a whole different world to ours of course [emoji6]

But I need to know more about Tammy’s character before saying he only cares about money. Because, at least, from what I’ve read and seen about this story, when choosing between various similar opportunities, the best financial package that benefits you and your family would obviously be a consideration. I mean I don’t know all the facts, but that seems reasonable to me.

Not floating my boat, my impression is that he is a moody money grabber and a bit of a dick. Based on nothing other than what I’ve seen of him on the pitch and read about him, so I could be very wrong.

Abraham is only interested in money. There was talk of a loan several years ago, and he demanded a loan fee of £1million for his family. We said no, and he went to Swansea.

That's a totally unfair thing to say, you have absolutely no idea at all that he is only interested in money. You don't know him at all and also none of us have any real inside knowledge of what actually happened when we were interested in him at the time and even if that was a request, who cares? There are lots of requests and demands made in transfer dealings, some of which granted, some which aren't and we don't hear about any of them. Plus he was just 19 at the time so I doubt he had much say in what was requested on his behalf. In Abraham's case in fact, he's got a good reputation in the game for his attitude.

He's a decent player and would be an excellent signing for us but there's no way we will be able to compete transfer fee and wage rise with the other interested clubs.

Looking at those figures, you are both wrong. Looks like 6 clubs spent less on agents.

Kind of the point I was making re that story. Agent / paper etc - not worth making assumptions based on people who represent these players. He’s always come across a decent lad in the press etc - that’s how we should judge, and even that is cloudy as **** as we don’t actually know them as people!

Any player trying to get a transfer is looking for a salary increase. There is no way we’ll be equalling his salary, let alone raising it if he is on the reported £130k per week. Matching his salary and if it’s £40m to Chelsea, it’ll be another £27m to Tammy (plus £1m to his fam) for a 4 year contract. £68m for four seasons. I don’t think we’re that club.

He is obviously quality but not what Chelsea want anymore and not what we can afford.

Exactly that - it's an impression, which doesn't seem to go away and is shared by many. Time will tell ..........................

Yup. That’s the bottom line.

Whatever the reason it’s a real shame as I think he’d be absolutely brilliant for us and probably likewise us for him.

Thank god. I think he is a luxury forward and you’d need to spend another 100m on midfielders before you could make him worthwhile. Not worth the candy.

He must have a good agent.

The wider game needs players like him to sit going nowhere to cut out the ridiculous contracts that big clubs give to average players ? £100k plus a month at Chelsea? Really, crack on !

Agree. I would be disappointed if a player like Tammy chooses to sit on the sidelines for a year collecting his pay check, when he could take a salary cut in exchange for regular PL football.

But then equally it’s probably more fool Chelsea to pay that much for a player they clearly weren’t prepared to invest in long term.
