As you say without Gabriel and Hackett it's not really news, but just a financial decision to boost their pension pots.

I think the support was String Driven Thing, with Graham Smith on violin, later a member of Peter Hammill's touring band.

Genesis turned from interesting prog rock band to dreary faux prog rock band for dreary middle class tory voting students from Hemel Hempstead (I knew one) after Gabriel left and the drummer decided to be the singer.

Gabriel is a genius but he was taking over the band with his dressing up and I still think Selling England by the pound was their best album.

I'm not going to get in to argument with the "No Peter, No Steve, No Genesis" brigade it's gone on so long it's beyond tedious.

Genesis are my favourite band and my favourite album of all time is "Invisible Touch" now before you pass out I will explain why as I am sure it will be same for many who do not hold the Peter era as the pinnacle of Genesis.

In 1986 I was 14 and reading smash hits and the bands on the radio were Five Star, Nick Berry, Samantha Fox, Spitting Image etc. I was in Brighton Technical collage cafe (can't remember why) and they were playing the Invisible Touch Album and the second side so "Domino parts 1 and 2" and "Brazilian" an instrumental. I had not heard anything like it before. So I bought it and slowly went backwards through their catalogue, and got more and more interested. Now if they were playing "Suppers Ready" in that cafe I would never of understood it at that time. Now my second favourite Genesis album is "Selling England by the Pound", followed closely by "Trick of the Tail" and I can't go past a florist without thinking "A flower?"

If you can listen with an open mind then Genesis still played progressive music even in the 80's, this blew my mind when I saw this concert in 1987.



I will try and get tickets not because I think they will be as fantastic as that, but because I want to say thanks to the band that saved me from "Stock Aitken and Waterman"

To be honest, if you want to hear the best of genesis, I recommend 100% Steve Hackett and his band...he is doing the seconds out tour this year and last year was selling england tour...absolutely brilliant.

I’m surprised they can get insured. They sounded like very old men on the radio this morning. Collins’ son is doing the drumming. I’d be surprised if his voice holds out. Seems like a once great band are looking to fill their old boots.

I am registered with Live Nation and can't see prices yet. If that is the case I will probably just stick to see seeing Steve Hackett.

Genesis! How underwhelming is that!

At least there are still some old timers like Metallica and Iron Maiden who are still relevant and making new music. And they are all late 50's /early 60's and still touring regularly
