Brighton factually.....
Can people help please.

I have a work colleague who is taking the West Sussex sea scout explorers to Japan for a world wide jamboree with Scouts etc from all round the world and they have to have a theme. Obviously East Sussex can use 1066 and the Norman invasion however he is struggling to come up with a theme for West Sussex other than Saxons.

Any ideas please ?

Famous things that occurred here or people etc, The internet is not throwing up a lot in all fairness.

Thank you

1066 is the obvious one.
The first television images - Hastings.
Tom Paine.
The Downs/the seaside.
Rudyard Kipling maybe?
The trug (if you're desperate!)

I'd put Eric Gill forward as the inventor of one of the most significant typefaces in the world (Gill Sans). However, I think he rather liked the company of younger people (along with animals it seems) so may not be right for a Scout jamboree!

That's the obvious one - although the story is that he showed that he couldn't stop the sea.

The other one, I mentioned this the other day, is that Jerusalem (the words at least) was written in Felpham
