Watching this now from Lords, just how much do we miss a decent left arm seamer bowling from the nursery end pitching in at middle & off allowing the slope (8 ft from side to side ?) to do the rest.

Lever only played 21 tests for England and only 2 at Lord's. Both matches were draws and his cumulative figures were 3-163, so over 54 per wicket.

His memorable action is the thing that people recall. Decent bowler yes, but not quite the legend he's been portrayed as.

If that is what is required then why isn't Sidebottom playing then?

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
I remember Bob Taylor standing up to John Lever for a time in at least one test. Most impressive piece of wicket-keeping I have ever seen. Lever wasn't the fastest bowler I've ever seen (the most frightening was Proctor at full bore) but he was quite quick at the time.

Just looked this up. No left-arm seamer has ever taken 10 wickets in a test match at Lord's
