A great cup win on this day for the Albion

On Saturday January 25th 1930, Third Division South Brighton, travelled to Fratton Park to play mid table First Division Portsmouth in the 4th round of the FA cup.
Brighton had a reported 8,000 fans travel with them to see Hugh Vallence score the only goal to give Brighton a famous victory.

When you think of 8k fans travelling to Portsmouth in those days, I just wonder how they all got there?

I seem to remember reading about a game against Southampton many, many years ago, when a boat took a load of Albion fans down there. Not sure where it started from, Shoreham or Newhaven I guess.

The Brighton Belle which was a paddle steamer that carried passengers on trips I believe, to the Isle of Wight from the Palace Pier. It was sunk trying to evacuate troops from Dunkirk.

Almost the 30th anniversary of our 2-0 win over Liverpool in the 4th round, just like the season before when we beat them, they were top of the League at the time
