A few passing thoughts on Palace.

A few passing thoughts on Palace.

Let’s not forget we also tore the Palace apart when we played at Withdean, it was only due to our ability to be unable to hit a barn door that night that we failed to knock up a hatful of goals. How many opportunities did Hart miss that night?

Some Palace posters on here have indicated that the rivalry is not so intense on their side? Well who are their biggest rivals? Millwall will state that it is West Ham. Charlton, Arsenal, Chelsea will just laugh at Palace. It can only be us or Crawley Town!

Even if their squad ignored the history between the clubs, the extra buzz in the crowd would certainly tell them, this was a different match.

Whist Palace played in the Prem. I doubt that that the Man U’s, Newcastle’s perceived the game as any thing else but a day out in London against lowly Palace.

With 10% of your budget scummers we have whipped your arse’s twice and more to come!

If for the last decade or so we had been playing in a 20k+ stadium and flirting with the Premier League whereas Palace had been playing in the lower divisions in a poxy ground with 6k crowds I suspect that it would be hard for many Albion fans, especially newer Albion fans, to see the rivalry as that relevant anymore.

To be fair LC i understand you are excited about Tuesday and rightly so it was a top performance from your side from lets be honest is a rag, tag and bobtail outfit (that is not being bitter it is praise because you still beat a side that most played Premiership football last term). But palace have been in the premiership 4 times and clubs i dont think look on us a s lowly Palace at all we are a club that flits between the Prem and 1st Division at anniying regularity but still manage to get there after a couple of years in the 1st division. You deserved your victory Tuesday and all power to your elbow for revelling in it but at the end of the day Palace will be challenging for promotion come May and you will be battling relegation thems the facts.

Out of interest AJ how do you think Palace rank in the list of biggest London clubs, cos I think they come quite a way down the list even allowing for your outstanding Premiership record:lolol:

That is an assumption, a well founded one admittedly, but nevertheless, not a fact.

I never said it was an outstanding Premiership record though did i? I said we have been in the Premiership 4 times our record at staying there is poor. Palace could be a much bigger club if we could manage to sustain our premiership status for a while but i am stating the obvious

And given they've only won one more game than they've lost, not a particularly well founded one either.

I know what you're saying, but the reality is that even if CPFC became an established Premiership team they will never be an exciting draw to many teams in the same way that none of the big guns will ever be too excited about a match against Fulham, Blackburn, Boro, Charlton, WBA, Portsmouth, no matter how high those teams might sit in the Premiership table.

so you are a bunch of under achievers then yes? - because your track record in the Prem is pretty awful for such a 'great' club.

I'm afraid to have to put it to you. Palace are an unglamorous, underperforming, overhyped outfit who are not viewed as a premiership quality team - especially by those teams of true premiership standing. No premiership team had ever feared you and most look upon you as being an easy three points. Despite all your huffing and puffing to the contrary.

Why? It's a bottom heavy division this season. You're in 5th now, but if you had just 7 points less, you'd be 4th to bottom!

Of course that is true we will never be able to compete with Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea etc these are offensive super powers and unless we can get an Abramovich to bankroll the club us or anyone else will never be able to compete

Look at the squad depth Simster compared to most in this league it is pretty strong even you would have to agree

You've got a bigger, more senior squad, yes. I expect that to show in Jan or Feb. However, the same could be said for about half the league.

I think that Charlton have set the model to which BOTH Palace and the Albion aspire to. They have done it without a sugar daddy (unlike Fulham) but with continuity in the key club positions.

I suspect that Simon Jordan (once described as a 'Twat' on Radio 5 Live no less) is too trigger happy to provide the security that is required.

Palace will continue to flit between good and average seasons in the Championship, and promotion in years where the competition is poor.

The Albion will do the same, but probably in one division below, until we have an established stadium and fan base that allows the board to fund an improvement in players.

Our squad cost a total of £110,000 on Tuesday (CKR £45,000, LK £50,000, Charlie £15,000), I hate to think how much the Palace squad cost, especially if you factor in AJ too.
