A breakfast cafe in central Brighton?

You'd have thought this would be no problem, certainly wasn't in days gone by but where's a decent 'greasy spoon' now?

A few mates & I like a 'pay day' breakfast. It's got to be within about 10 mins walk from work (near Churchill Sq) and be open to serve before 7.30.

For some months we've been using Tiffany's in North Road but, after 3 occasions when they were not ready to do the most simple breakfast, last monday they didn't even open.

We've tried the market twice, only to find that closed. Even bystander at the station wasn't open before 8.00am so this time we had to settle for a pasty & coffee on Queens Road.

Duvalls & the legendary Clock Tower cafe are long gone but does anybody else know where we can get a good (and not very healthy) breakfast?

Cheers. had considered Trafalgar Street as does have cafes, but thought a bit far for an uphill walk after a substantial breakfast.

I know belchers, it fits the bill just means passing work on the bus and walking back afterwards.

Thanks for the food for thought though!

I have asked my youngest son, who uses cafes a lot and he says the best is Belchers, in one of the side roads going to the front from Western Road or further out Linda's on the seafront out towards Portslade but that is obviously too far for this thread.

The Kitchen Café in Trafalgar Street.
Motu at the bottom of Trafalgar Street.
The Dumb Waiter in Sydney Street.
Inside Out in Gloucester Road. (A bit dear).
Belcher's Café in Montpelier Road (near the seafront)

This post explains so much..

Mr Canning does not do breakfast but prefers a liquid lunch. He won't have it that cider does not count as one of his '5 a day' and thinks that 5 pints is a healthy diet. he would be alone with Tiffany if the bloody place would open on time!

Belchers seems to fit the bill and will try it on payday at the end of the month. I have been there once before, but not that early, and it is a 'proper' cafe, which I suspect Buddies is not.

There certainly is scope for a cafe and the old Clock Tower cafe is behind hoardings again. the old (odd) couple who ran that were legends and their 'customer service' was a fine antidote in this corporate world.

Can you report back on the Belchers experience? I haven't been there myself.
