Totty just back from the findus hunt, informs me that the woolies in boundry road hove,is to be taken over by iceland(the food company) not the country, and those staff that lost their job will be re hired if they so wish to be. that is all, thankyou to totty for up to date current affairs info.

Sorry but in the current financial climate it's a bit like getting shipwrecked and someone shouting " There's a ship, there's a ship we're all going to be saved, thank god for the Titanic". Most large towns have a Woolworths and an Iceland, so they're just going to have one store and asset strip the rest.

I agree it's good news for a certain number of ex Woolies employees, but I think it will probably only be a few, that's what I was getting at.

Depends which way you are coming. From the sea and what used to be The Halfway House Pub but now a dog parlour.

It is Station Rd Portslade to the left up to the level crossing and over the crossing becomes Calton Terrace the entire round to the right again coming up from the sea is Boundary Rd Hove.

As regards the post by Barrow Boy as I read it Iceland are only acquiring old Woolworths stores in towns that do not have an Iceland or the Iceland is too small and the Woolies being bigger offer better opportunities to trade.

I used to work at No 5 Boundary which was Hove. So it would probably be safe to say, if your house has an even number, you're Portslade, if it's an odd number, it's Hove

Royal Mail however, is saying 5 and 2 (opposite sides of the road) are Hove!!!

Although Iceland have bought 51 ex Woolworths sites a lot of them are in places where Iceland already have a store and they are just moving to create more floorspace. Existing Iceland employees would take precedence over jobs so there will only be a few positions to be filled.
