I am sure anyone jobless and/or homeless is entitled to job seekers allowance and housing benefit, therefore able to rent a bedsit or b&b?
Or do you have to meed a certain criteria to be eligible for housing benefit?

If you are homeless you don't have the address you need to claim the majority of benefits, especially job seekers, its very difficult to get on that particular ladder let alone get some sort of roof over your head.

On the other hand there is a very small percentage of people that 'don't mind being homeless' and see it as a way of life, especially in America..

However if you were to walk into the housing benefits office and declare yourself homeless, they will put you up in temporary accommodation and use that address to start your benefits? Surely?
I'm not convinced that in this nanny-state of a country, anyone would be turned away and told to sleep rough. I would put money on the homeless choosing this path as the benefit gained to pay for housing has instead gone into their pockets and used for drug and alcohol addiction.

Doesn't quite work like that. If you've ever had to claim to doll its hard enough to do when you own your own home.

Anyways, I'm not going to say anymore other than hope this lady finds a place to stay and the culprit of the domestic abuse suffers the fully consequences of our 'nanny' state!

I don't wish to turn this thread into a binfest but do they not support men affected by domestic abuse as well?

Guys, thank you so much for your advice and help, and to the people that have PM'ed me, your lovely top guys.

We have managed to get her some accomodation with a friend of hers, She has 3 cats and a dog, which she was more worried about then her, bless her. She's safe now, but I just wanted to say thank you very much for your help and support. Times like this remind me of what a brilliant community I am lucky to be part of.

I thought if you turned up to the council housing/benefit office and declare yourself homeless, they are legally obliged to house you?
Would this be a better alternative for your friend?

Where ever you heard that was a lie the council don't do that the is a list of around 16000 and they are all proitised into bands a,b,c,d,e and to get housed you have to be in band a and to get the you have to have a young baby or have mental problems and even them u will have to wait around 6 months.

The temporary accommodation is in eastbourne. And it is horriable full of drug's and I was told by my housing officer if I took the temp accommodation then I wouldn't be classed a homeless as would have a roof over my head the best way around it is sofa surfing, you are only aloud o stay in the one place for 2 nights before it is classed a housing and then get people to write letter saying that they can no longer put you up after about 4weeks and try and get letters from you doctor this always helps
