Quite right, legends, I think the 80's stuff was equally good to that you have mentioned as well - As for the Darkness, they're fun, and by today's standards at least, original

They are fun. And 'orininal' to the extent this hasn't been done for ages - but nether-the-less Queen are unique. Does that make sence?

BTW Icy Gull -

Do you mean Clapton is over-rated or Clapton and Knoffler are both over rated?

Either way your wrong.

Clapton is the best slow hand guitarist ever. He can hold a note for ages and has an impeckable sence of timing. Knoffler is just as good if not better. Both I'd admit stand in the shadows of the likes of Jimmy Page/Hendrix.

Clapton is a better slow hand guitarest then Santana. Anyone that is better than Santana could NEVER be over-rated!

i dont think the darkness are claiming to not be influenced by queen, acdc etc.

They arent an amazing band, but at least they offer something different to the manufactured shite that has been dominating the charts for the last 20 odd years.

if u r talking about guitar players, check out albert lee, he is fuckin awesome, and u can stick your metal players up your arse before some tosser starts trawling out the likes of satriani, vai etc etc!!!

NOBODY is better than Carlos! Good as Clapton is he lacks originality but hey that's just my opinion and has been since "Clapton is God" was the no 1 grafitti

Biscuit if you like guitar music try and find somewhere that sells Ezio as Booga is an amazing guitarist in the same league as anyone we're talking about here

no peter green??

In his Fleetwood Mac days but I was talking about musicians that you can still see live today and Peter Green has done his brain and is a pale imitation of what he was :(

Possibly but what I saw about 5 years ago was nothing like he used to be, was early days of the comeback. Is he now back to his best then?

No Peter Green in my top 5. Nor Van Halen who I do believe is over-rated. Of course he does have talent...he plays the G-tar fast but thats about it!

80s underground music was brilliant smiths, housemartins, cure, and many many more quality acts. but seeing the back of the 80s with bands such as queen, bon jovi, europe etc was a marvelous thing . i didnt like these rock efforts then and to hear and see somebody like the darkness trying to make this popular again is an awfull shame. this music should have been binned and consined to history then. please dont let them bring back all things bad from the 80s because there was so much of it. the early 90s was a breath of fresh air and not a lot has happened since. dont let these morons be the next big thing. although they are good to laugh at.
but celebrity death match between slash and justin hawkins would be good.:lolol:

my guitarists would be johnny marr and john squires.

guitar wise i think peter green is, tho like a lot of these guys he should leave the song writing to someone good!

going to see clapton at the end of this month in manchester for the first time which i'm looking forward to.

went to see walter trout a couple of months ago, he can play very well but I got bored a bit by his constant widdling..

couldnt ever give a top five favourite players, far too many different styles/players that blow me away.

Hope your experience of Clapton is better than mine was. I saw him in Birmingham during his blues tour. Have to say after about 20 mins it became very samey and boring, but I'm not really into blues. I'd quite like to see him again but only if it's a cross-section of what he's done.

90's was great with the likes of Nirvana making the scene, alot of the 80's had great music to (bar the human league lol)! I would not however, have a go at the Darkness for trying to bring rock back home. They are doing their best - there just not very good.

The best you can hope for is that this will lead to a chain of new rock bands coming to the forefront thus brushing aside the manufactured boyband/girlband bollox.

Nice choise of guitarist mate. :clap2:
