Haywards Heath
Melford Simpson (who played for Shoreham and East Grinstead in 2015-16) joined Haywards Heath at the beginning of April from Fisher FC. He scored 5 goals in 5 league matches as Heath won the Southern Combination Premier Division title (and should therefore be promoted to Ryman South).

However, the league didn't present the trophy on the day they won the title and the FA have now charged Haywards Heath and the player - Haywards Heath Football Club charged following investigation

As I understand it, Simpson was under a Sine Die ban by the London FA in relation to his period with Fisher.

I have no idea if Heath knew about the ban (I would have to assume they didn't) and I have no idea whether the player and/or the club SHOULD have known about it, but in situations such as this the FA tends to be extremely "harsh" on the offending party, even if they couldn't have done more than they did. One example; Aryan Tajbakhsh (who happened to play for Crawley Town against the Albion U-23s in the Sussex Senior Cup final this season). In January 2015 he joined Enfield Town from VCD Athletic. Later that month he got a booking. When the Enfield secretary was dealing with the paperwork he noticed a discrepancy and immediately contacted the FA. It turned out Tajbakhsh had already received 10 bookings that season and should have served a suspension commencing January 3rd. The FA originally told Enfield that once he had served his ban everything would be fine, but they eventually charged Enfield (even though all the bookings had been received before he joined the club) and they were found guilty and docked points which prevented them taking their place in the play-offs.

I didn't know that. I have my fingers crossed for them,

Just shows that the FA haven't got all the dots joined up. If they had a central database of players banned sine die and it was checked when the player is registered for a club then no problem. The FA appear leave it for the club to find out - but how? So if a player doesn't disclose it then this type of thing will happen. Grossly unfair on the club but what the hell can they do about it? Sue the player?

Difficult to disagree with that. In the Aryan Tajbakhsh case I mentioned, Enfield Town missed out on the Ryman Premier play-offs because his two previous clubs that season had not entered data correctly and had misspelled his name. In fact, the matter only came to the FA's attention because of the diligence of the Enfield Town secretary who reported the discrepancy as soon as he found it - Enfield Town’s play-off dream hangs on FA ruling over points deduction

Even at Premier League and Football League level, if you look at the disciplinary pages on the FA website you will see multiple entries for bookings/cautions for the same player under different names (for instance, Lucas Joao and Lucas Dos Santos Joao at Blackburn; Tyler Forbes and Tyler Hornby-Forbes at Albion at non-first team level). It is a pretty sorry state of affairs that at a time when there is so much money in the game, the governing body can't even provide a modern, accurate, comprehensive database system for the disciplinary status of players at all levels of the sport.

Still think fairer system would be 3rd place goes straight to final. 5th and 6th play each other and winner plays 4th place to decide other final place.
This gives great incentive to play for 3rd and 4th place with no weakened teams for last few games

So Tranmere would not have gone up anyway as they finished 2nd

We had a similar situation at our junior football club when a parent went ballistic when her son didn't get a 5 year loyalty award. Turned out he had changed his name and this level of detail wasn't known by our secretary. We sorted it out, but just shows how easy it is to get wrong.

Appeal to be heard Thursday morning, Heath don't seem to hopeful in getting it overturned! It's Fisher who should be docked points not Haywards Heath! The old sticklers at Sussex And London FA's won't budge!

Sussex FA have upheld there decision and find Heath guilty of fielding a banned player! SCFL will hold meeting on Monday to discuss what sanctions to take against Heath. They won league by 4pts so hopefully it will only be a 3pt deduction!

Are you a Heath fan Conelli98 or just taking a passing interest?

Hmmm...more than a interest! I don't like the way that The Sussex FA or many FAs run their counties! Do many old boys at Culver road that only think of themselves and don't move with the times!

How?
Teams that finish 3rd play once

Teams that finish 4th play 2 matches or 3 (2 legs vs winner of 5th & 6th place play-off?) What if they only missed out on 3rd by a couple of goals?

Teams finishing 5th or 6th may also only be a point or 2 behind the 3rd placed team but have to play what? 3 (3 one off games), 4 (2 x one off game and 1 x 2 legged match) or 5 (1 x one off and 2 x 2 legged matches) games compared to third placed who play just once - If so, what chance do they have with all these extra fixtures? - whats the point, you may as well just promote the 3rd placed team

Why not simply have a bit more of a break between the end of the regular season and the start of the play-offs, (say an extra week or fortnight more rest) - thus allowing all players to rest a bit prior to these competitive fixtures?

This gives great incentive to play for 3rd and 4th place with no weakened teams for last few games

Also regarding weakened teams, what if there is a run away team in third? - why wouldn't they rest players if they can't be caught with several games to go?
