Feeling a bit bleary eyed today but what a fantastic night, I ruddy love all the pomp and ceremony of this grandest of occassions and then the suspense of finding out the big winners, then a few hours kip before watching all the breakfast TV on the red carpets at the aftershow parties.

Abolutely teriffic.

How did Hathaway and Franco do as hosts? I heard on the radio they bombed.

It was odd. I think their problem was the writing they tried to court a younger generation to the tv show, hence the young stars, and uncomfortable references to modern social networking, but most of their patter was the same as with older hosts. Though I thought Anne did better as she was more enthusiastic, and she was good when she was on her own. They had little chemistry and James looked bored and superfluous.

Overall I did enjoy the show though.

Back to Billy Crystal or Steve Martin next year, then? No more of this double host experiment?

Just totally f***ing dreadful, from start to finish.

Him - trying desperately hard to be cool and laid-back, so much so that a few people seem to be wondering if he was stoned. Awful and highly punchable.

Her - even worse. Imagine plying a 10 year old girl with vast amounts of sugary drinks, then forcing her to down an entire crate of Red Bull. Then brief her: the more loudly she shows off to the audience, the more they'll love it. My missus compared her to a "high school talent show", which doesn't sound good to me either. Horrible.

And then to make it worse, they bring out Billy Crystal and even a scary hologram of the rather, erm, dead Bob Hope - both of whom highlight their inadequacies even more glaringly.

It's a pity, because it is really quite a good show, all in all. But those two...*shudder*...I'd rather listen to Celine Dion again than witness any more of that.
