Wonderful game! It will be interesting to see how the new one pans out. I loved the control of the ship in space flight. It was very precise. I dread to think of the hours I've frittered away on that game!

I spent far too much time playing Elite & Frontier... I've always wished for an MMO type game based around Elite.. will definitely keeping an eye on this

is the correct way off putting it. I was going to type I found docking hard but was fearful of the inevitable replies.
cracking game though. pissed away the bulk of an Easter weekend playing an emulator a couple of years ago

I've long been saying this was due a refresh. There's just NOTHING else like it and I don't understand why. The original game was epic in its scale and technology has moved on to a point where we could do something incredibly impressive using the same basic mechanics.

I love space trading. Hurry up and make the game

looks like quite a small budget considering what the budgets are for games these days.

quality game though. did anyone ever come across the space war on the original where there were loads of ships all over the place?

Did anyone actually make it to Elite level? I came close , made the next rank down, whatever that was called.

Here's the list of rankings with the kills necessary to achieve them:

Harmless 0
Mostly Harmless 4
Poor 8
Below Average 16
Average 32
Above Average 64
Competent 128
Dangerous 1000
Deadly 3000
Elite 6000

Playing on an old Acorn Electron, I reached Dangerous. It was the most amazing game for its' time using vector graphics.
I've still got the manual, map, keyboard overlay and the novel.

A shame we can't Hyperspace into 2014 already.

If you can't wait till 2014, get hold a copy of 'Evochron Mercenary' - I came across this on my quest to find an 'Elite' type game last year, it's the best one i've found so far. I downloaded it from Steam - available for £11.99.

It's not 'Elite' but i find it equally enjoyable! Infact, i might indulge a little now, not played for a while - if i remember rightly, i have a contract to clean up a solar array that i need to honour!

Was there such a thing as a "cloaking device" or confusing it with another game?

I think there was a cloaking device for Elite II: Frontier (my preference over Elite). You could also deal in illegal goods as well. I still play Elite via DOS-Box on occasions. For a 20 year old game it has far more depth than many new games (just looks a bit dated and the sound is shocking).

EDIT: Just checked and it's made the pledge amount! :)
