8 car trains for Falmer?

I was told this evening by a train driver that it is not a problem to run an 8 carriage train to and from Falmer as there are ample points and direction changing areas just outside of Falmer.

I do not know who to believe.

As a driver myself I can tell you that's rubbish I'm afraid - may have been true years ago but definitely no longer the case.

Thank you BB and Ernest. Although there seems to be a slight oddity to what you are both saying.

Ernest is saying the work to introduce a new signal between Falmer and Brighton would cost millions, and BB is saying that once the few months of preperation and planning work that is required to carry out this work is completed, it will only take overnight to come online.

Even as a layman I can't see the work that BB mentions would cost millions of pounds.

If it involves Network Rail and re-signalling then there's every chance it will run into millions even for the simplest of jobs.

£3M to cover admin and consultation costs with the actual job costing £200k ? :lolol:

I don't pretend to be any expert on such matters, but I heard that the club will be running coach services from surrounding towns (Haywards Heath, Eastbourne, Worthing etc) in order to reduce the demand for trains to the stadium.
