This seems like a competition to try and find the worst squad/managerial combination that we have had over the past half century or so (probably the extent of our collective memories, we would need an octogenarian to go back much further)...on paper this is a squad that should have us challenging for a place in the Championship, however...they are underachieving on a massive scale...so, if it isn't the players then it must be the managerial team that is incompetent and letting us down.

Statistically the first season at Gillingham is probably our worst - 35 points when it's 3 for a win.

In 62/63 when we went down to the bottom division we got 36 points - that was when it was 2 for a win.

Was that the season when George Curtis was manager?
He decided youth was our future and we got hammered week on week.

Indeed.

He got sacked and Joe Wilson took over till the end of the season. Modern managers don't have the monopoly on crap excuses. From Joe Wilson's programme notes:

"We had to play against the wind in the first half and had about three fifths of the play, and then the wind played a prank on us and changed, so that we were facing it again after the interval"

Marvellous!
