The one time I've been to Five Guys was in New York. The burger was alright, but it certainly didn't live up to the gushing enthusiasm my friend was giving it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the equivalent of £11 but that was a few years ago and I'm sure they charge more in the UK. I've been to so many burger places which charge a similar price and give a much better burger.

The model is $10 burger = £10 in the UK.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
£11 pp is hardly extortionate

About the going rate.

Yep, about the going rate and to me it IS extortionate. It's a bl***y burger for heavens sake. When did everyone start believing that 10 -12 quid for a burger was a price worth paying. I want a proper meal for that price, not £1's worth of mince pattie with some chips.

Old Daves Gourmet Burger in South Street Eastbourne is very good.

Draft beers and home made slaws etc too.

Interesting. We went shortly after it opened and both thought it was awful. Tastless patties and the buns awful. Longman beer was good!

Have you tried 7 bone in town? That's next on our list to try

Interesting. When did we go all 'American' and started calling burgers 'patties'?

???

Similar to the hype of Nando's - which is just KFC with knives and forks!

This. Absolute triumph of marketing. Nando's is no better than fast food.

As for Five Guys - meh, it's alright. Appears more expensive than it is as the portions of chips are MAMMOTH, a small will do you unless you have a huge appetite. Again a triumph of marketing, and I'd happily take Uncle Sam's at a much lower cost.

You think grilled chicken is 'no better' than deep fried chicken?

I loved 5 guys. Best burger I've had in years.

Only tip I would give is buy small fries. I'm a fat ******* but even I couldn't finish a portion of medium fries.

This. The portion sizes are INSANE at Five Guys.

I think Nando's overall standard of food is closer to KFC's than to a "proper" restaurant's food.

Why, just out of interest? Whatever a 'proper' restaurant is

Just been looking at the menu... did you have a 'Prince Charles is overrated' in your slider? If so, what the hell is a dirty spread?

I'm dairy-free these days, so sadly no.
Dirty spread is rather amazing though, I hear.. I think it's mayo, ketchup and some spices. Thousand Island with a kick. Give it a bash.

I had winner winner, dreadlock rasta and peter green.
All excellent.

Because it's greasy, the sauces are bland and overall I think it's nothing special, in my opinion. Much like Five Guys is similar standard to Uncle Sam's, yet due to a triumph of marketing costs way more.
