Is that a profit on top the amount of money it took to actually stage the event?

I'd be more interested to see how much FIFA and that twat Blatter made out of it.

Shame that so much money escapes via the touts though. Not so successful on that front....
Not true, the ticket has already been bought legitimately somewhere before it gets in the hands of the touts. What happens after that has no bearing on the money that FIFA or the German FA make

yes. even 20 mill euros over the estimated profit

I'm starting to now understand why England will never win another Would Cup Bid to stage the event.

FIFA wont allow us luxury to have that sort of money spent on our football.

But surely they would make more if the tickets were SOLD rather than GIVEN AWAY to sponsors, who then sell them to / as touts?

What I meant was, if people are willing to pay that much then perhaps tickets should be made available to Joe Public at a higher price, plus the money could be spent on merchandise and/or further money spent in the host country. People are getting rich for doing absolutely nothing.

Do profits from things like the beer and bockwurst sold at the fanfests etc. contribute to this higher than expected profit, I wonder?

I'm just wondering whether the open invitation aspect which has made this world cup so special is likely to be repeated.

Thereby meaning that fans from rich countries would be far more likely to attend world cup games than those from poorer ones? For that to be officially sanctioned by FIFA wouldn't be brilliant either, plus immediately there'd be millions accusing them of profiteering out of the world cup.

Maybe a staggered system with cheaper seats available to the countries involved in the round robin and a higher price to those who wish to attend...I am not talking about huge amounts.

The money could then be invested back into the poorer countries in the form or football facilities and/or clean water etc. and so on.

It's the fact that so many tickets were available to joe public in the first place that fuels touting. The only way to stop it is to give all of the non corporate tickets to the supporters club of each country, but even then you won't stop the contries with a smaller following selling their allocation of tickets. My ticket for last saturday was from the portugese FA, right in the middle of their fans but there were loads of english in their section.
I put well over a grand in the pockets of touts this summer and as far as i'm concerned they're providing a service. The ones I spoke to had been out there for 6-8 weeks buying up tickets from sponsers, fifa officials, fa officials etc. and when you take into account how much they had to pay for the tickets their profit doesn't seem like that much.
With regards to merchandise, I saved up money specifically for tickets, if tickets were cheaper then I just would've spent less money, I wouldn't spunk what I had left on a load of tat
