I always laugh at the argument that people drive them because they can get more in them. 4x4s are infact rather small inside compared to an estate or even some larger hatchbacks.

I drive mine because I keep my kids in car seats and belt fastening back boosters and I could not find a car that would fit all three seats accross the seat and allow for one to be rear facing. Plus my car was the best value for all the extras out of the four or so 4x4 that were suitable.
My husband however has his just because he likes it.
I can get teh same amount of shopping/pushchair etc in my 4x4 as I can in my other car. I cannot fit 3 seats acrross the back seat in that car though.

for all you capri fans . . . they made a 4x4 capri rally car in the early 70's. had a MK1 1600 GT XLR a few years back, lovely car.
proper 4x4's are Land Rovers, notable exceptions should be made to Range Rovers (which are just as capable, just more refined) and Subaru legacys . . .the farmers choice !

we've had a MOndeo esstate ( massive inside) a legacy estate (also deceptively large inside) and now I've got a transit van. all three of us can get in the front of the Transit with Arthurs new car seat which is about the size of a mini.
People have no frigging idea half the time. when we where kids we all piled roof high in cars without complaining, it seems now everyone has to have a car the size of a bus just to nip to tesco.
a majority of 4x4's are not that large internally its just overblown US styling for a fattening market.

So their kids travel safely, whilst the kids doing the right thing and walking to school, have near misses and even get hit because the drivers can't see them.
And yes in my case, the number of near misses I have had with the vehicles moving into my safe zone and just blind ignorance of what is around them.

Have you noticed that the (false) hair blondeness and height of high heels is directly proportional to the size of a womans toy 4x4?
Some of the Mitsubushi double cab pickups are pretty good now and the Isuzu Trooper seems almost bullet proof. These though are not town cars.

I had a Cherokee when I lived in New Jersey, useful for getting over potholes in the New York streets but the larger SUVs are a bit point;;ess here for most people.

That's a Britax seat.
Do you have three the same? Or a mix of other seats - where does the RF seat fit in amongst the two forward facing?

the Mitsi L200 and isuzu thing are dreadful to drive, I was offered one as a Co car . . .absolutely woeful, shouldn't even be allowed on the road ! great farm machinery though
