Am I the only one that thinks we were very poor today and have been very poor for the last couple of games as well. Slack passing has put us in trouble on numerous occasions and our final ball has been very poor. Perhaps we have been spoilt over the last 2 years with watching good footballing teams and long may us playing shit continue if we keep getting the points we need.

I agree. Still we won so who cares?

So what happens when he plays that well? DW takes of Santos but instead of replacing him with Tank (who needs matches ) they move El abd across and put Reid at full back:shootself Now if MM had done that there would have been uproar but not a word said when Wendy does it:shrug:
Tank may need matches, but do we need Tank? I think not, we can probably afford to take our time with his return to fitness, I think El-Abd and Lynch is our best partnership anyway.

And why would "MM" have done it? He doesn't have a job, who would he do it with?

Does make you wonder why a new contract was really necessary, and if it was then why sign Santos? We have a lot of good young defenders, so why do we need both of these experienced blokes. Surely to god we don't plan on playing TWO 36 year olds together, so I can't help but fear there is a wage in our defence which could be used better elsewhere.
I agree, which is partly why I questioned the Santos signing. I also hope to GOD we never see them both playing together.

Can't see Lynch staying as we will get as good money offer for him.

I thought we played some good football at times, I didn't like the idea of passing around the back, espically across the box. One of these days we'll get into trouble doing that and let a goal in, the superb balls out wide where smashing, espically for the fourth goal.

So you want the defenders to hoof it then Kev? Playing the ball across the box, and switching play is the best way to create space for your players - especially against ten men. There may be a small risk we would give the ball away, but professional footballers usually are able to pass the ball straight over such distances.

The only issue with this is Mayo's inaccuracy

Would it be fair to say that if we'd had an outsider in as manager, that Mayo wouldnt be playing?

Well in my opinion retaining Butters (and a few others) was total madness for a club in our situation. So, to then sign another 36 year old centre half, who is also probably on a fair whack each week, defies belief. I think Santos has done quite well, don't get me wrong, but you have to wonder whether our wage budget is being put to best use.

Saying Lynch might leave is no argument. He was a Brighton player when we kept Butters, and he was a Brighton player when we signed Santos. He MIGHT go in January, but it must be better to worry about replacing him then, rather than spunk loads of cash on extreme amounts of cover now.

There's a few short memories on here obviously. You lot moan about Reid or Hart playing as full backs then say that you have no idea why we retained Butters, or bought Santos. Can none of you remember that week before the season started where we had 1 fit defender available?

As I saw it Wilkins bringing Fraser on for Santos, who had just taken a smack in the face, was more to do with giving Fraser a bit more experience than anything else. I don't think for one minute it was a sign that he might play Reid at right back again, simply that with a few minutes left and a comfortable lead he could afford to make that change and give a youngster some more time in the first team. He knows what Butters can do, and as said earlier we can take time over Butters coming back to fitness now, at his age it would be stupid to rush it anyway, so why not give the future of the club a bit more experience?

No, I don't think it would be fair to say that at all. Mayo is the experienced player, and a new manager wouldn't have much to go on, so would probably be picking him anyway.

That said I don't think Mayo did much wrong yesterday. His defending was solid, he was linking up well with Frutos. The fact that little threat came from our left was more to do with Frutos being off the boil than Mayo.

What rubbish. We may have only had one fit defender at one point, but as memory serves Lynch, El Abd, and Mayo all played at Rotherham. We also signed Lowe on a short-term deal for that match. We could EASILY have put out a half-decent defence in that game WITHOUT commiting to a whole year of wages for Butters and Santos - neither of whom played at Rotherham. In any case, since when were Butters and Santos FULL-BACKS? Just because people moan at having players like Reid at full-back, are you suggesting the solution is to sign yet more centre-backs? How about this, just stick to what we need in the centre, and sign some specialist full-backs with the excess money?

Which full backs where there to be signed then? We've apparantly been after a left back for 2 years and still haven't got one. I just think it was prudent to keep Butters, especially as we are light on DEFENDERS. Yes, El-Abd is more naturally a centre half, but he can play right back too, so no harm in keeping, or bringing in another one. Especially as we have had injury problems with DEFENDERS.

Anyway, my main point was about why Wilkins bright Fraser on instead of Butters, but I see you've ignored that.
