The 3rd one international starts on thursday at Kanpur, with england now 2 games down what are the chances of us getting back into the winning groove.

Do we jiggle the team about by bringing L Wright into the team and also what about the opening pair should M Prior drop down the order . i think swan should be in ????.but saying that the most importent aspect is to win the toss and bat first, not put them in to bat as we did in the first game:nono:

Otherwise i can see us going 3-0 down.

I can see 4 and 5 nil I am afraid.

We are facing a side that is on the crest of a wave in front of their own highly partisan fans. The side needs Harmison and to a lesser extent Anderson to click and for at least two of the major batsmen to go out and destroy their bowling.

Do you see that happening? I do not.

If I was in charge I'd definitely give Swann a chance, as Patel has got nowhere so far. If it's another spinners wicket then drop collingwood and put Bopara at 6, if it looks like it'll suit the seamers then a straight swap for Patel.
In an ideal world Prior should drop down the order, but with this squad of players whoever goes in, with the exception of cook, gives you exactly the same problem. If you put Cook in then invariably the early run rate is so slow the game is gone when you get to 20 overs.
All this is immaterial to be honest, as I think the Indians will do us whatever team goes out.

Prior can get the runs at the required rate if he has to. Originally he was regarded as a pinch hitter.

The issue I believe is that he is so scared of getting a low score and losing his place that he has become over-cautious. Maybe the selectors just need to have a word and say - we understand if you get out to an attacking shot. It's painful to see him fiddle himself out (so to speak).

is the team I would put out. Our tactic does seem to be to start slow and go nuts at the end of the innings and this team lends itself to that. I like a left/right combination at the top of the order and we need one hitter up there and Prior clearly can't hack opening at international level. To me Swann is a better bowler than Patel anyway and probably should have always been playing ahead of him, I also think he's a useful bat. I'm giving Bell one more go at three this time.

Swann has now been added to the squad for thursday game but no place for Wright.

I'm sorry, I'm a Cook fan but not for the ODI environment. He is too limited inhis shot selection. Not sure what the answer is. They have to change the opening pair though. Bopara can open the batting, I would go for him and Bell and drop Prior down the order. Swann definitely deserves a go but he doesn't turn it like a Harbajan. Our problem in the bowling is that we don't have enough wicket takers in the middle overs to take advatage of early wickets (like the 2nd game) or put the squeeze on when they get off to a flyer (like the 2st game).

You can't really drop Shah, after Pietersen i'd say he's our best one-day batsmen

Same XI apparently, only exception is Swann for Bopara who has a stomach bug, otherwise there would be no changes... Great selecting!

I'd get Swann opening as well, he should add a bit of umph to these pathetic opening efforts.

When you say 'umph' do you mean like the 'umph' in Summer Nights?

Well er well er well er umph..tell me more ...

He could sing it to himself when the Indie bowler is running up timing the 'umph' when he cracks the ball to the boundary.

Swann opens for Notts in limited overs but without great success

It asks a lot of Prior to keep for 50 ovs out in that heat, then after a short break to go out and bat straight away. Alec Stewart had proved himself at test/ODI level before he was asked to do both.
When did we last have a decent opening PARTNERSHIP for ODI's?
