I watched my first ever Albion game. We drew 2-2 at home to Cardiff.

All I can remember is Brian Powney letting a soft goal in front of the South &

Sully who instantly became my favourite player & remains so to this day.

Does anyone have any (probably more lucid) memories of that game?

What a time to start watching the Albion - they lost the next 13 games !
Fair play to you for sticking with them after a start like that, I wonder how many of those moaning about our current run would have been so loyal ?

Can not help you with better memories of the game probably watched it ,as i saw most Albion games then as a youngster but was thinking this was the era of Ken Beamish ,so when looking at the stats saw that Albion scorers were Ken Beamish and A Murray who i think was Bert Murray . Crowd was 16,387 ,Sully was one of my favorite players very consistant great servant for the club ,by the way does any one know if Sully took a lot of three kicks around the opposition penalty area ? That season saw Chelsea come to the Goldstone Ground in the FA Cup and beat us 2-0 in front of 29,287 crowd , i do remember a little that Peter Osgood was differant class that day .Unfortunately Albion were relegated that season from the old div 2.

Yep, Pat Sawards recently promoted side were struggling to come to terms with a higher level and were drawing quite a few games. I could be wrong but I think we may have been 2 up in this game but o finished level on a dull, grey & damp day.

After that came a 12 game losing run and it was Jan (maybe Feb) before we beat Luton but, by then, we were rooted to the bottom and, despite a spirited effort, couldn't survive.

So, well done for sticking with Albion after such a poor start!

I went to Annecy School in Seaford and was in the same class as his nephew Chris. Went to my first game around that time

I think Cardiff wore all red and I don't remember any problems with their fans or, indeed, if they brought many.
