Awful!
Is it possible that the driver did not know what was in the container!
But I just hope and pray they get the people behind this and deal with them accordingly

Imagine being in that lorry and slowly seeing everyone around you suffocating to death in their own piss and shit, knowing the same fate awaits you in less than an hour. Horrifying

Seems a strange route - from Bulgaria via Holyhead (on Saturday) then right across Wales and England almost to the more logical ferry port for coming from Eastern Europe anyway. You'd have thought the driver must have got out of his cab and heard banging on the container walls at some point in the last few days.

The only ferries in Holyhead are from Dublin so how did he get there? He would have had to go from Spain or France to Cork. A very odd route.

Sickening. Understand container may have gone from Cherbourg / Northern France to Rosslare and driven to Dublin for crossing. Adding extra day or two chances are they were deceased by time of arrival in UK. Also possible that container could have been transferred to different lorry /driver for final leg?

Not sure now is the time to be second guessing transport routes around Europe, let alone wondering what the driver should or shouldn't have done.

Well somebody certainly sent that container on that circuitous route, and it wouldn't have been the decision of the driver.

Quite. I bet It's a lot easier to pass from France to Irealnd than Dover- Calais. From Ireland to England is straight forward . . .at the moment.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
The vehicle travelled from Bulgaria, a part of the EU, so where did the people in the back come from ? Clearly not Bulgarians.

The theory seems to be that because it's a roundabout route and not the direct one there's less scrutiny from the Authorities. Lot more chance to suffocate though, poor ********. RIP.

Puts all the other current petty squabbles and first world problems into perspective.

But If the driver is implicated and they fast track his court case and he ends up with a long prison sentence, will that act as a deterent to others?

The only good that could come out of this is to make a vidio and lots of pictures and circulate to the communities where these folk come from, Syria, Iraq, Iran, where ever.
Circulate in the originating communities to let them see that the future is not always better than the grim life they already have.
It's a big issue, but we have to try and stop it somehow [at source preferably].
