@ Arundel, Worthing & Lewes sections. Good news for all (most) of us that can't believe the ludicrous single lane, tinpot sections in place now. Crack on

Don'twant to ppass on your parade but how far will £350m go? The bridge over the railway at Beddingham cost £60m ten years ago. Personally would like to see the Chichester section sorted out even though I live up this end.

Its not difficult to get an economy up and running people and goods and services need to get from A to B as quickly as possible. For me any road improvement is a good thing. In fact they should go gung ho and make sire there are no bloody motorway roadworks or if there are fixed in double quick time.

Know what you mean but a few weeks ago it took me a lot longer to get from Arundel to Eastbourne than to get from Plymouth to Arundel.
The A27 from Arundel through Worthing is a joke.
Could have gone Motorway but M23 roadworks stopped that option as well.
A303 should be 2/3 lanes all the way as well but the tunnel at Stonehenge will help.

Does this mean that the houses around Worthing that were bought for the road widening which was canceled and sold back to public will be compulsory purchased again, or is there another option. It will help transport to Falmer?

It seems that of the new A27 schemes, Arundel is the only full scale bypass, Worthing and East of Lewes are "further improvements".

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/major-roads-investment-in-london-and-the-south-east

"investing around £350 million to transform the A27, with a new bypass at Arundel to complete the ‘missing link’, plus further improvements around Worthing, Lancing and Lewes - this will help the A27 link together as a single route, supporting the development of the local economy and removing notorious congestion hotspots"

But no mention of Lewes in the "detail" list:

"A27 Arundel Bypass A27 Arundel: new dual carriageway bypass, subject to consultation with the National Parks Authority, local authorities and the publication of this and alternative options Autumn Statement 2014"
"A27 Worthing and Lancing improvements A27 Worthing and Lancing: improvements to capacity and junctions along the A27, subject to consultation with West Sussex County Council and the public Autumn Statement 2014"

Chichester is to be improved as well, but that's not new today, it's a previous announcement which continues.
"A27 Chichester Improvement A27 Chichester Bypass: upgrading the four junctions on the Chichester bypass 2013"

Apparently some more visual information at 9am, the teases
"road investment infographics and images will be available to download from 9.00am on Monday 1 December 2014."

The dull part of the south coast
Oh yes please! The absolute shittyness of driving from Southampton to evening games (Saturdays, it's train time :drink: ) with the doughnuts at Chi. the snail crawl through Arundel, and that motorized cock-up from the A24 at Worthing to the Shoreham fly-over really drives a man to despair. Sort it out!!

To be introduced towards the end of the next parliament, which means at least 5 years away in practice. The Worthing/Lancing A27 improvements are on-line ie. improving the existing road, so there will be years of roadworks before any gain. The Arundel bypass of the bypass built 25 years ago is still subject to an options review and because it will be very controversial (National Park; Arun flood plain; major landscape and environmental impact) will be, I predict, a particular target for those opposing new road investment.

Interested to see what is proposed around Lewes - grade separation (ie underpasses for through traffic) of the two Lewes junctions? May just move the queue to Beddingham, but would have safety benefits.

Watch this space.

They probably just spent all the actual new cash, last week, relaying new tarmac on the causeway section at Arundel.

It'll be a shame to rip it all up again

I came to the conclusion a while ago that it's far quicker to drive straight through the middle of Chichester than waste time crawling round the bypass. And going cross-country via Steyning and Storrington avoids both Worthing and Arundel.

Haha, haven't actually tried that, will give it a go! Always use the Storrington route rather than Worthing/Arundel.

Lewes not on the interactive map: http://maps.dft.gov.uk/road-investment-strategy/ nor on the infographic https://www.flickr.com/photos/transportgovuk/15916484515/in/set-72157647220707854 but 18 new schemes mentioned and only the (largest?) four highlighted on the infographic.

Which is good grounds in itself for the investment, to avoid the local congestion, traffic impact and safety risks you and others are imposing on those communities.
