Would be a massive signing.

We still need to be sensible. We can't be throwing around silly money, even though we can probably afford it for a change.

Would imagine we will set the high bid at around £40m... they kinda need the cash. Reckon the problem will be whether there is a higher bidder.

Is the bid an indication that we think he is open to a move? Would be a bit pointless if we didn’t think he wanted to come here unless it’s just a bit of PR by the club to show ambition? That doesn’t sound like us, to me. The bidding always starts low unless you are Boehly of course.
Well we must know him pretty well so we must know he is open to staying. I'd say the next step is to make Sanchez part of the deal.

Given how close TalkSport are to Brighton , probably true

I think the main issue here is that Chelsea have quoted that ‘he is not for sale’. Therefore no point in making additional bids, especially as we have been annoyed in the past with teams that have ignored our ‘not for sale’ stance.
Think the onus is on Levi to accept this stance from Chelsea, or take action which I don’t think he will.
Give it a week or so, and then move on.
I doubt we’ll want to annoy Chelsea.

If we have made this bid, it's very much an opening offer.

I think we might go up to £45m and make him our highest wage earner. The logic being that at his age, we are very unlikely to fail to get this money back (and likely a profit) when we sell him on in 2 or 3 years. In effect we'd be renting his playing services for this time.

There's no way we'd bid unless we know he absolutely wants to join us. We've gone in early, not hard but early. This could be incredibly exciting. We should offer 50. That will really test them. Sounds like a lot of money but this kid will be world class.

To be honest, Chelsea would be stupid to sell at this stage. We have to have a go because their FFP position may give teams a chance of getting academy graduates from them because they are pure profit on their books. If you count Ampadu and Sarr, who've also been out on loan this season, he's one of eight centre backs at Chelsea. Someone's got to go. At the moment it seems Challobah may be the graduate one they want to sell. Presumably they were comfortable selling Guehi to Palace for £18m a couple of seasons ago because he and Colwill were considered to be better. Challobah, like many of their squad has not had a good year, but will surely be of interest to someone in the EPL and probably for something in the ballpark of what we've offered for Levi. If they can sell Challobah and keep the left footed Colwill, they'll fill a bit of the FFP hole and have a stronger squad.

Poch likes working with young players, doesn't have Europe to worry about and Levi has shown he can handle prem. They have injuries in that position so he is perfect fit. We don't need to lower ourselves and act like Leeds. Yes we need someone in but I think there is no point in pursuing this one. Chelsea may come calling to us for a player, then we may have some leverage in doing a deal.

Right, who's printing up the mugs? And the t-shirts?

If he is so keen the first thing he can do is say he won't be signing a new contract. That isn't downing tools or causing a fuss, just letting Chelsea know he intends to leave.

I don't see them getting anything like £30m for Challobah.

I mean he's going to end up here anyway, so they may as well give in to the inevitable...It's only our hopes and ambitions that count for anything... etc etc

(am I doing this right?)

RDZ was glowing in his praise of Levi the other week, I think we do need him and he's worth upping the bid for.
