4 of those was the spurs 78 an evening game..??...got a bit rowdy down old shoreham rd that night .....!!
For me, the match that ticked all the boxes was the Palace game of 1976. It had everything - huge partisan crowd, intense rivalry, unbelievable atmosphere, and, the right result 2-0. I lived on that for weeks.
Other than your observation about the "right result" I agree totally. The atmosphere at that game was fantastic, I doubt younger fans - of either club - will ever experience that level of passion at a game, it was brilliant.
Unlike the result, which made life pretty shit for several weeks.
You got your revenge, quite recently I believe.

The Spurs game was definitely played in daylight. I walked in the back of the North Stand, got clonked on the head and carried off to St Johns behind East Terrace. Remember it well. I've got a feeling it was Good Friday?
As for there being more people in the ground than reported: many of the turnstile operators were on the fiddle and pocketed a few quid every week and that was before the higher ups took a cut. I am absolutely certain that every attendance was under-reported.
I was working in the SE corner the day of the West Ham game. About 15 mins before kick off the crush outside was pretty bad and the police weren't in control. Large numbers of WHU fans saw their opportunity and just started jumping the turnstile. A few of them slapped down a few bob as a token contribution but most didn't pay. The guy who supervised the turnstiles (Charlie?) sacked me for letting them in free of charge ... git!
the spurs game i'm remembering was definitely mid-week ....maybe 81-82 ....we won 4-2 i think...lively outside...!! i wasn't at the west ham game when the old boy got crushed at the front of the north stand and died......i was about 14 , my old man took me to the races with him to make sure i didn't go...!!
i have no idea - i just don't know how you all remember which games you went to thirty odd years ago.
I don't remember every game but I recall the Wolves tie vividly: it was my first evening game, it was the first time I went to the game by train and it was my first 30,000+ crowd (and it certainly was a 30k+ crowd, it was packed). We were really unlucky to lose to a decent Wolves team.
I also remember the Rochdale game as it was my first promotion. The others I don't always recall so well but those two really stick in my mind
Am I a novice JCL pgh knob? I missed the Oldham game.Just checked ... Spurs was 3-1 on Sat 15th April. Easter that year was 26th March so I was making that bit up.
After that we played:
- Bristol Rovers (a) 4-0 Tuesday 18/4/78
- Oldham (a) 1-1 Saturday 22/4/78
- Charlton (h) 1-0 Tuesday 25/4/78 (30,000+)
- Blackpool (h) 2-1 Saturday 29/4/78 (30,000+)
I went to all of them. Anyone who didn't is by definition a JCL-plastic-glory-hunting knob (even if they weren't born).
Remarkably, three of those 30k+ happened in the space of two weeks.
It was after the game with the pitch being invaded....watched it all from the South
Yep, you're a bad fan. Surprised the PBC let you within a mile of The Amex.
More worryingly and a little less facetiously ... it's 46 years since my first 30+ game (Wolves). Most of the players must be in their 70s and 20,000 of the people who went are probably dead. Now there's a cheery thought.
The trouble with Spurs was very much before and during the game. I know because I started off in the North Stand and ended up in the east
How many have you done? I think Sunday was number 10 for me (all the ones from 76 onwards, except the Derby league cup game).

Not really related, but does anyone have a list of our live TV appearances?
Must be at least 15 matches now, with the vast majority in the last decade.
