With the speculation that we are after the highly rated James Tunnicliffe,am i alone in thinking that RS,may be planning an attacking 3-5-2 system. As Virgos best position is centre half, along with Elphick.Very effective formation if it is executed correctly.

not sure we have 3 good midfielders at the moment , let alone 5 plus subs.

Guess if we buy several decent midfielders its an option but I'd prob suggest 4 - 4 - 2 more likely at the moment

Andy Whing can't play in midfield  possibly as a RWB but then there's no-one on the left

I wondered that but Slade's only signing so far is Mark Wright and he said he signed him as a natural winger which would not fit into 3-5-2. I am hoping it is a sign of the kind of competition we are looking for in all positions but it is hard to believe Virgo, Elphick or Tunnicliffe would accept not being a first team regular.

They have to fight for it - its not about expectation it is about proving yourself. We need serious competition and at least three top drawer centre backs

I firmly believe 4-4-2 is the formation the players are more comfortable with at this level, as everyone knows their job and more importantly, where they should be on the pitch at any given moment...

Please don't f*** about with diamonds or any other poncy formations Mr. Slade and you/we will reap the rewards

Pretty much well reported that Slade didn't think we could defend when he came in which is why he told Dicker to sit so maybe he don't see the future as a partnership of Elphick and Virgo. Competition for positions can't be a bad thing whatever happens

Funny that because the diamond formation seemed to work towards the end of last season.

If Whing leaves maybe Virgo will go right back and Tunnicliffe and Elphick as centre backs and MCnulty as left b ack.

This seems the most likely

why does it? Virgo hasn't played right back for more than a few games at a time for an age. Can't see Slade building a promotion chasing team and having a makeshift right back in it

Where did we finish in the division last season?

It seemed that we had to alter the formation to accomodate the players that were available, match by match. The players should be able to fit seamlessly into a set formation, namely 4-4-2

I would wager that if we play 4-4-2 for the whole season we will finish considerably higher than last season :)

Could it be inconcevable that Slade is planning TWO diffrent formations?

If we want to get prmoted we will need to be versatile.

If all our players can do is 4-4-2, then Slade isn't doing his job properly.
