16-1 off the 5 overs after lunch. It’s effectively cost us 7 overs plus ran the risk of Broad getting hurt.

We already had enough to set South Africa a world record run chase. Seems pointless to have carried on with not enough reward for the potential risk.

Mind games?

If we need those 7 overs South Africa will win the Test Match.

Quite possibly but not necessarily. It’s conceivable they give up the chase and just dig in. As it stands they need just under 3 runs per over. That’s ahead of the scoring rates in the first 3 days.

I still think England have more than enough time though.

Ben Stokes has shown he can catch the ball and today that he can hit the ball now we need him to show how well he can bowl the ball.

Solid start by SA to the 4th innings.

He may well be the only fit and able option available, given the issues they've had on this tour.

You have to question why Bess was picked here, seems a totally bizzare selection.

Our other fit spinner Parkinson was smashed out of the attack in a warm up game. I think they went with Bess primarily to hold up an end, allowing our other seamers to rotate. Bearing in mind Stokes is injury prone and Anderson is 37 and just returning it was probably a sensible decision.

A leg spinning debutant may have forced our pace bowlers to bowl too long a spells on what is a decent batting surface.

Denly to Elgar, OUT, huge appeal! Massive delay as the umpire weighs it up, but the finger's gone up and Elgar reviews! He was stretching forward, thrusting his bat at the line of the spinning ball, and it was seriously adjacent as ball passed bat. Now then! There's a tiny disruption on Ultra-Edge ... so small that it could have been static... but it's sufficient for the on-field decision to be upheld!

D Elgar c †Buttler b Denly 34 (78b 2x4 0x6) SR: 43.58

If the umpire had given Not Out it wouldn't have been overturned. Marginal one.

Ben Stokes is STEAMING in at 90mph... but to no avail.

108-1, 330 runs or 9 wickets required for the win.

Bess seems to bowl too full for a spinner, both Root and Denly have looked more threatening.
