FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
For those of you that have had a beer and a chat with Gerry Ryan over the years at Witch Inn in Lindfield.

This will be Gerry's last day as Landlord as he has sold up. I enjoyed my Saturday afternoons in there greatly after my football games on a saturday afternoon, it was great going back there with all the Albion memorabilia on show and having Gerry pour me my pint and being a friend of a true Albion Legend.

Get down there for a pint and a meal before it changes hands is my advice i know i will.

That's sad as he's a true gent...
Has the pub been sold to developers as its a large plot in a very nice area?

As I'll be celebrating my birthday I'll have to TOTALLY disagree with this being a sad day.Cards and presents will be accepted.

Hasn't been the same since it was turned into a restaurant.

Absolutely, however Gerry was almost forced into turning it into a restaurant due to the scourge of under age drinkers he had to deal with.
Gerry is good, well as good as can be expected after his recent poor health.

I believe it has been sold to people who have designs on development at some point, the land next door is well suited to development although Gerry tried before and failed.

I wouldnt be suprised if in a couple of years time there wasnt a block of flats and no pub at all.

To be fair, the development they've knocked up opposite the pub looks super. Guess this will go the same way. Shame.

Pubs are more and more becomming a pre 21st century entertainment. We just aren't using them as we did, preferring to drink at home instead. I guess the Witch is feeling the pinch more than most, being in a highly affluent middle-class residential area rather than on the high-street "strip".

Sorry to hear that. I did go there with a couple of friends for the England v Croatia nightmare pre Euro 2008, first visit for a long time, but wasn't that impressed with the whole restaurant emphasis. Bit of a change from the old days. Might try and get along there again soon, though.

We'll all have our Gerry Ryan memory, no question mine was that first goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup in 84. Superb.
