Nice ground? It wasn't when I last went, but that was a long time ago.
I used to visit the old in-laws over Christmas and they made a boxing day trip to Upton Park a regular part of the hospitality. Spurs were the usual opposition. A packed ground, terraces behind the goal, a pitch that came right up to the edge, a superb atmosphere.

Marvellous. A proper stadium.

Indeed it was - my first ever pro game was West 'Am v Derby around 1974, when Derby were in the European Cup and the 'ammers were full of stars like Clyde best, Billy Bonds, Frank Lampard, patsy Holland etc etc , oh and some peripheral Dean Wilkins-esque midfielder whose name I' ve long since forgotten.

Packed terraces, Cagrlie George playing for Derby. peanuts sellers everywhere inside the ground, and the shallowest goal nets there's ever been. Inddeed once a goal was not given at Upton Park beacuse the ball bounced back off the wall be hind the goal so fast that the ref ahdn't realissed it had gone in the goal.

What memoires
