I see Albion Roar have Harty on talking about Gull's Eye - no doubt focusing on their involvement in publicising Bellotti and Archer's nefarious scheming but back in the day it was part of my match day routine even before the war years (I used to buy it from outside the church hall/latter day gym on the corner by the ground) and always had a giggle at half time. I have no idea why but the one edition that sticks in my mind is the one alluding to "Pleat's Place" after he'd got done for kerb-crawling. It was cutting edge stuff back then pre-internet.

Come to think of it, the Brighton fanzines were an essential weapon for us fans back in the dark days. After Gull's Eye, Scars and Stripes was an important part of the campaign for a permanent home.

What are your memories of it? Essential reading or just tomorrow's loo chip paper? I'd also be interested to hear from the "House Your Seagull" mob about lessons learned, what they do differently...

The Codner snorting the white lines front cover, long before Robbie Fowler ever thought of it?

But definitely the Vive La France cover, in tribute to Cantona.

you eat chips in your loo?

I have very vague memories of it having started following the albion just before the war years.

I'm not sure if it was even Gulls Eye that I read it in (am certain it wasn't a programme) but I have never forgotten laughing with my mate at an interview with Junior Mcdougal where he said he hadn't decided if he would play for England or the US yet. Wonder if he's decided yet.

I most vividly recall the cover with Barry Lloyd saying "what more could possibly go wrong?" As a plane is about to crash through the window behind him.

It was printed on the Thursday, for a Saturday match. On the Friday there was an air disaster (M6 crash?) and they took a LOT of stick for distributing it.

There is quite a story about their relationships with the blooms in the fans untied issue

For a second, I wondered what the hell "untied" meant in this context, and then I worked it out.

At the time it felt that you had to buy a copy as it was money that was not going into the wrong hands, like the fighting fund

Allways got mine by the petrol station on the old shoreham road

Loved every copy. a proper read

Gosh was it really a quarter of a century ago. Routine was 1) buy Mars Bar and programme from newsagent opposite North Stand (latterly the one over the lights opposite the Hove Park pub), 2) buy hot dog from van on corner of Newtown Road, 3) Buy latest Gulls Eye, 4) Eat hotdog and scan Gulls Eye prior to entering ground.
