As per this post i made a couple of days ago https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/show...2021-Edition&p=9987439&viewfull=1#post9987439

We don't have to name him but it makes sense to include him as an emergency contingency option that we hopefully never need.
Doesn't it depend on whether they're HGPs or not? I think somebody published a link explaining that a while back. If you've got 25 players, 5 HGPs and 20 overseas players, you can only name 17 non-HGPs so you have a squad or 22 - three overseas players not named.
However of you've got 17 overseas players and, say, 7 HGPs, you name a squad of 24 - you can't leave out a couple of HGPs and declare a squad of 22. Seems daft - but that seemed to be what the regulations stated (if I could find the link again, I would!)
That, I understood, was why we had to register Crofts.

If you read the link that JJJJS includes in the post you just quoted, you will see that the example he gives (Simon Moore, at Sheffield United last season) contradicts what you've just typed (the Blades named only 22 players, but left out Moore, who is an HGP).

You can register up to 17 non home grown players in the squad of 25. If you name a full squad of 25 players by default you must have at least 8 HGPs, if you have less than that you will simply name a smaller squad.

We named a 24 man squad after the summer transfer window last season, with 12 home grown players. Crofts being named had nothing to do with the the home grown players rule. After the January window we named a 23 man squad with the same 12 home grown players.

There used to be a rule that said that you couldn't leave a player out of the squad of they were registered and eligible but that rule appears to have gone as last season Sheff Utd named a 22 man squad and left out Simon Moore who qualifies as an HGP. West Brom also left Kamil Grosicki out last season, naming a 24 man squad, he wasn't an HGP but seeing as 20 of the 24 players they did name qualified as home grown there was nothing stopping him being named.

Register Crofts was probably a case of pure "why not". Realistically and hopefully never happening but if ten midfielders get injured, better have the bloke in the squad than leaving him out for no reason. I guess the same thing will be the case with Gary Dicker.

OK, OK, was just thinking back to a rather detailed debate on NSC a few weeks/months(?) ago!

Trouble is, there's still too many places on t'internet stating that all eligible players must be included, unless you've got more than 25, in which case obviously some won't make the cut. These sources are quite old, so care is needed to look at the date, such as the one linked below. It's harder to find sources saying the rule has been rescinded!

"9) Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named".

the current situation with Locadia is that he is an Albion player and is training as normal. There's photos of him in training on the Albion site over last week or so. There's reports of interest. in Turkey (their window doesn't shut for another week) so don't rule out an exit. The Athletic reported yesterday that if that doesn't come off that Potter is comfortable with Locadia being part of his plans. What that means in practice is hard to guess given how long he's been away from the PL and how he's only played one game under Potter.

Appreciate the detailed reply - thanks.

Locadia to stay with us until January? As an insurance option. Or do we loan him out?

I would say he stays given the stupidity of loaning out Sima and Zeq

If he stays, its because no one wants him. Nothing to do with Zeqiri and Sima.

Well it should be

If Locadia works hard in training and gets himself fit I’ve no problem with us keeping hold of him until January as backup backup. We are paying his wages after all.

Agree completely. Will be useful in the cup competitions as well.

Yup. If he puts in effort in trainings, why not. Could easily see him playing against Swansea in the Caribbean Cup.

Locadia staying. We now have 4 strikers.

Yes. Potter confirmed it in the Fans Forum, and Locadia confirmed it via his Instagram account.
We will get formal confirmation when Albion announce their “25” squad to the PL later this week.

Made his PL debut v Swansea - perhaps that’s where he’ll restart his Albion career in a fortnight.
