The difference being that when Barnard was available at Spurs we couldnt afford him as we didnt have a financial benefactor but times have changed and so have our aims and ambitions. Many people saw and commented on his potential.

Grant Holt has proved he cant cut it in the championship so will probably be available in January and we missed the boat with Barnard, who I suggested signing when he was at Spurs prior to going to Southend.

Spot on - mate of mine who is spurs said at the time the club was looking to send Barnard out on loan and many of us were begging the club to pick him up. He was scoring a shedload in the reserves there. Hopefully our new set-up won't miss out opportunities like that again.

Under your skin.
David Aganzo Méndez. 9 goals in 10 starts in the spanish 2nd division. His team are midtable and don't seem to be going anywhere in a hurry. worth a look at.

Got a feeling Poyet will pluck a foreign lad, or premiership youngster who will smash in a load before Xmas and will struggle to keep him. Murray will get more next season (although goals to games record record this season ain't bad) as well

I reckon he will go foreign too.

Lambert Southampton 29
Barnard Southampton 24
Beckford Leeds United 24
Holt Norwich 24
Paynter Swindon 23
Austin Swindon 19
Rhodes Huddersfield 19
Morison Millwall 18

You have to start by looking at this proven list of league one goalscorers. I suspect the only ones we could lure away from their present clubs are Paynter and Austin. Can't see any of the others coming our way.

All the players on this list are playing for successful clubs. The question is, have they been getting lots of goals because they are in a good team, or has the team been successful because of their goals? I suspect it's a bit of each so I doubt if Lambert would have scored 29 for us but I think he would have been close to 20.

Is this the limit of people's ambitions - ageing hand-me-downs, one-season wonders and third division carthorses who pitched up at godforsaken towns closed by the Tories in 1983?

Poyet is going absolutely flair-tospheric with his signings in the summer. Expect some great signings with magical names and long flowing golden boots to turn up at the Theatre of Trees.

If we are going to look to the spanish leagues for a striker we might do worse than have a look at Carlos bueno at Real Zaragosa - scores for fun at home in Uruguay but hasn't quite managed to convert that form to europe - Poyet might be the man to make it happen.

Think I would look at home for strikers though and the likes of Brett Pitman and Adam Le Fondre are obvious options and I really fancy Kevin Philips to score a lot of goals if we could persuade him to drop into league 1

I'm also expecting Poyet to go for a few unproven players from abroad.

Sebastien Ribas is a young Uruguayan striker who is currently banging them in for Dijon in the French 2nd division. Would certainly be affordable.

You heard it here first!

With all these 'missed opportunities', I'd like to know what the circumstances were before so readily blaming the club.

Did we not want him or did he not want us? What were the financial details?

Unless we know those things it's hard to blame anyone...not that irrelevant things such as facts will stop some..
