It's being pushed onto us

How's it being pushed on us ? That's like suggesting Mrs Browns Boys or Strictly or the Great British Bake Off are being pushed on us. You're not forced to watch them. Thankfully I have a very modern TV and can change channel ..... I even have a red button that means I can turn the TV off **shudders**. You might want to upgrade.

I'll maybe watch BHA women's highlights but wouldn't want to watch for 90 mins.

In a parallel world, women's American Football is becoming quite popular - see below - can't think why?

Yeah, I'm surprised that wasn't bigger news. It's the first time in the UK that a professional male sports team has appointed a female coach and it seems to have warranted little more than a downpage paragraph.

Good appointment though hopefully - forget gender, she's one of the best keepers around full stop.............

Harty lives in a state of perpetual bemusement at the world around him. It’s almost as if he expects the world to just stand still and be what it was in 1987, Barry Lloyd managing the Albion, wolf whistling at women, shiny grey polyester double breasted suits from My Byrite on Oxford Street (yes Ian you know the suit!), Snickers as Marathon and the size of your hand, Jimmy Saville on Jim’ll Fix It yadda yadda.

Women’s football will get season long network TV coverage from next season.

I’m sure it will get an audience, but I do get the feeling that we appear to be constantly bombarded into almost being made to embrace women’s sport, be it cricket or football.

Whilst I fully support development of all youngsters to play any sport, I don’t really follow the Albion ladies team, am I in the NSC majority or minority on this?

If you have no interest in womens' sport, don't watch it. It really is that simple.

Nobody is going to come round and fine you for not embracing womens' sport.

To enjoy womens' sport you have to adopt the mindset of not comparing it to men playing the same game. The physiology is different which is why a mens team will always beat a womens team playing at the same level. A professional female cricketer is not going to be able to bowl at the same pace as a man etc. That doesn't mean that the skills levels are not on a par, it means they are different. The competetive element makes the sports just as exciting.

But if you've got a downer on womens' professional sport then nothing I'm going to say will probably change your mindset.

The one thing you are really bombarded with, even if you have only a passing interest in football, are gambling websites, shirt sponsorship, tv ads, pitchside ads, podcast and radio sponsorship for a game often targeted at children and the young. Not many threads about that on here though...

Would be perfectly happy to occasionally go and watch home WSL at the Amex or Lewes or Withdean or anywhere else with effortless transport links in the general vicinity of B&H. Make a special trip to Three Bridges? Sorry, never going to happen

I tend to agree with the OP, however one significant difference, I do follow our ladies team and have watched via the red button.

I would much rather watch women's football than Formula 1, tennis, golf or basketball.

And I don't even like football any more.

Lewes have their own ladies team, who are paid the same as the men.

Formula 1 spectating is for weirdos, life is too short to watch televised golf; tennis and basketball are both viable viewing, but yes WSL definitely trumps those 4.

Would women's football be improved - both for playing and spectating - by smaller pitches and smaller goals...?

Perhaps around 85% of the sizes for male players? c.80m long pitch and goal dimension 7yds x 7ft ...?

Would speed the game up and reduce the relative farce of so many lobs going in.

I knew that yonks ago. Your point?

Lewes play in the Championship not the WSL.

Um, was always on this thread just posting about the Albion's womens team, and mooting Lewes as an alternative to that shanty township just south of Gatwick Airport

Ah, you mean ask to groundshare?

I think the women may be playing at Lancing now they've had their new facilities built, but I could be wrong, and often am.

I saw a girl in the park yesterday with an England shirt with “Bronze” on her back.
Good to see, the England players are inspiring people.
Also...I’m guessing there was a time women’s tennis was written off. But that changed. I cheer Watson and Konta as much as Murray and Evans at the slams.
I will also be watching these games on the BBC.
