No I dont. Think he is ok but think the £35m could have been better spent. Great he is scoring penalties but 1600 minutes in the league 400 minutes between non-penalty goals 800 minutes between assists. If we can get money back or make small profit I would do it not sure the club would agree
sorry, game of opinions and all, but that’s utterly ludicrous. only player who’s looked remotely competent as an attacking force for a decent period of time across the season as a whole. we’d be about 17th without him. our attacking ability fell off a cliff when he got injured

I dont rate Joao Pedro if we get good money I would be glad to see him go

WOW

RW - Probably the most important. Need to upgrade on Adingra.

Also, WOW. Simon Adingra is quality, and way beyond 'good enough' to be one of a set of 4 wingers at a top 10 Premier League club. If we consider March and Mitoma as choices 1 and 2, not many clubs have an option 3 or 4 as effective.

Yup.
The guy is what, 21/22? Playing his first full season in the Premier League, a season that was interrupted by a young player of the tournament display at AFCON, playing way more than he would of expected both internationally and for us.
Again, there are problems with the squad, Adingra isn't one.

All the reports say £30m was spent, and so far he's scored 19 goals. If by the end of the season he adds another couple and is on 20+ then I think you have to put that in the bracket of 'you get what you pay for'. A striker who scores more like 30+ goals costs a LOT more than £30m these days. You also have to remember he's still only 22 and this is only his 2nd season in a top division, so far that I think he's doing just fine.

Agree with pretty much all of the original post. I would look to move Lamptey and Webster on, move Lallana into a coaching role, and send Fati back to Barcelona. Right back, centre back, and right wing all areas to be looked at but priority is getting a quality centre mid in, a real statement signing who helps us control games better.

This is the thing. People say the penalty goals count I say they don´t count in the same way. Its a free 0.7 xg opportunity you get and a lot of people in here could score one which would never happen with open play goal. Some seasons we wont get as many cheap penalties as this one. He is as you say 22 and new in the league and far from terrible not opposed to him staying but I´d be fine with him going if replaced properly

Joaoa Pedro himself won at least half of them.

Fair enough, each to their own. Maybe I rate his ability with penalties as a bigger plus that you do. We've seen plenty of Champions League and Europa league players miss them this week! For that his 100% record with them must be considered impressive. & if over the next season he develops as a player, continuing to score the penalties but also adding a few more open play goals then that £30m starts to look like a very fair price to me especially when you look at what others are paying for strikers and how many goals they've scored this season.... Havertz £65m, scored 10 goals. Richarlison £60m, scored 11 goals. Nunez £85m, scored 18 goals. Jackson £35m, scored 13 goals, Haaland £85m, scored 31 goals, Isak £65m, scored 21 goals. Palmer £45m, scored 23 goals. With those figures £30m for 19 goals, and at only 22 with plenty of room to develop starts to look like a good signing for me.

I’ve looked and can’t find a thread on this but please merge if I’ve missed it.

I know there’s 7 games to go, but let’s face it, we’re fighting for the mid table places now, and, with a while to go till our next game, I think it’s fair to start considering our summer transfer activity as something to keep us occupied. Below is what I’d like to see us do (not necessarily what I think we’ll do). I’ve grouped players in to the roles I think we need in the squad - this is not necessarily a formation, as our balance of midfield vs attackers changes depending on the oppo.

GK
I’d like to see Rushworth return to compete (not rotate) with Bart. Steele would make a good #3 - he’s a good ‘club man’ and I doubt he’s on a huge wage. McGill out on loan (or sold).
IN: Rushworth (return from loan)
OUT: McGill

RB
This feels like a priority. Controversially, I would move Lamptey on - he’s lost some of his explosive pace which was his main weapon and I don’t see where he fits: his defending isn’t good enough for RB, and his end product isn’t good enough to be a winger. Veltman doesn’t offer enough going forward to be more than a back up, and Hinsh’s long term role is as a midfielder so I’ve listed him there, though he can obviously act as back up.
IN: New first team RB
OUT: Lamptey

LB
An interesting one as lots of questions. I’m going to assume we can turn Estupinan off and on again to reboot him to the level he was before the injury. I’m also going to assume Barco is ready to be the back up (he’s listed as a defender on the official site, though I suspect he will end up LW). I refuse to consider Milner as a FB as he’s absolutely bobbins there. Igor is also a square peg there which massively reduces our attacking threat, so if either of those assumptions is wrong, we need to bring someone in.
NO ACTIVITY (unless we loan out Barco, or consider him a LW)

CB:
I think it’s time to move on Webster. I like Adam but RDZ clearly doesn’t, and as we know he needs a run of games which makes him a poor back up option. I’d like to see Igor drop down the pecking list a bit - he’s OK, but replacing Colwill with him was like replacing a Ferrari with a Vauxhall Astra - they both kind of do the same thing but one can do a lot more (and a lot more gracefully) than the other. We need to upgrade to get back to the level of last season.
OUT: Webster
IN: New CB

DM (Athletic/Dynamic Bissouma/caicedo type):
I’m splitting the midfield roles as RDZ has said himself we’ve lacked this dynamic - he used the word impact - player. Baleba is obviously the heir apparent, but I’d like to see us have someone else as well, he can’t do a 50 game season and when he’s not there, we lack presence. I’m considering Milner here as I think it’s his best position, but if it was me in charge, I’d be thanking him and sending him on (though I don’t think we’ll do that). The unknown here is Hinsh, as I haven’t seen him play this role but feel like he could do.
OUT: Milner
IN: New athletic Bissouma/Caicedo type

DM/CM (Ball playing MacAllister type):
WBG has done well in this role. Gross is better further forward imo, and can’t get about the pitch enough to be in this role - part of the reason we look so pedestrian at the moment. He also looks knackered. Dahoud was a disaster and a significant upgrade is needed. Moder may (or may not) be able to do this role at the level required, but I’m not sure his passing is good enough - jury is out on that.
OUT: Dahoud
IN: New CM (Dewsbury Hall?)

ACM:
Lallana should be moved upstairs. This is Gross’ best position but he isn’t getting any younger. Another one where I’d like to see us strengthen.
OUT: Lallana
IN: New ACM

LW:
Mitoma back, Adingra as back up (he’s much better on the left), and Osman, Sarmiento and Barco as well if not loaned out. This is well stocked if we don’t sell Mitoma.
NO ACTIVITY

RW:
Obviously the key here is to get March back fit. But I think this is where we could strengthen. We wanted Kudus and the other options are either better on the left (Adingra), or not as effective out wide (eg Buonanotte). Kudus would have been ideal as we could do with more pace and power.
IN: Kudus-type RW

DEEP LYING CENTRAL ATTACKER:
Assuming Enciso is back fit, I think we’re Ok with him and Buonanotte, plus others who can drop off (eg Pedro or Welbeck). There’s also the option of Sarmiento.
NO ACTIVITY

UP TOP ATTACKER:
A fit Pedro, a rejuvenated Ferguson and Welbeck, plus the option of bringing back Undav if his personal circumstances allow.
NO ACTIVITY
I like your analysis. A few buts

I wouldn't move Lamptey on. He can cover all 4 wide positions equally well and given the number of injuries we've had this year, that quality has value.

I'm not sure if Rushworth is still ahead of Beadle in the pecking order

I think we'll also be having a look at some of our other loaned players in pre season. Moran surely has a chance of being given a squad number. Not ruling out Sima either.

I think you've been overly harsh on Igor. He's done a pretty good job out of position and to me should be thought of as 3rd choice CB rather than 2nd choice LB. Webby is as good as 4th choice CB as we could hope to get if fit, but therein lies the problem. I guess he'll move on

PS: Trying to argue that Pedro hasn't been a good signing or had a very strong first season at the Albion - is contriainism of the hightest order.
I get its fun to do - but come on...
To wit, he's still the Europa League's third top scorer, after Aubameyang and Lukaku, whose teams are still in contention, despite not having played since Marseille at home in December. Has to count for something as well that at 22, he's much younger than either the 34 year old Aubameyang or the 30 year old Lukaku yet holding his own.

He is injured for SUCH a high percentage of his career. He cannot be seen as reliable cover.

Feels like we are going to need to make a bit of room on the squad. We probably can't keep players who's fitness is unreliable, sadly.
In a season full of unexpected injuries, Lamptey missing about three-quarters of the season so far as measured in minutes was utterly predictable.

Tariq is 23, and he's already missed getting towards 100 games through injury.

Hinsh when fit will play RB. Its not really RB is it.

Dewsbury Hall and potentially another right sided player.
I dont know if Osman plays right side tbh or if hes ready yet.

Genuinely dont think we need that much. Just the players to get fit.

I suspect our business will be determined by who leaves

Agreed - I would prefer less, but higher quality signings.

A top top DM and a top top AM would make a big difference. (Replacing Caicedo and Mac, basically).
