As Mwepu Ilunga's free kick is my favourite football moment in history, and also because I own a t-shirt in honour of the great man, it just has to be Zaire.

no matter how many times i see that zaire moment, it cracks me up

they quite clearly do not know the rules as they are having to be told by the referee what to do in that wall - so how the f*** did they end up in the world cup?!

exactly, the state of african at the time must've been APPALLING for a team to qualify despite simply not knowing the rules

either that or african refs just let them get away with anything

right, for anybody in any doubt, some more flair facts championing the zaire cause. as if anymore were needed after that free kick:

mwamba kazadi became the first keeper to be subbed for a tactical reason after conceding THREE goals in 20 minutes against yugoslavia. his replacements first touch was to pick the ball out of the back of the net, ending up conceding 6 in a 9-0 defeat

mulamba ndaye was sent off in that match and didnt know WHY

FLAIR FLAIR FLAIR

The free-kick is the FUNNIEST moment on any football anywhere in the world ever. That's a scientific FACT.

For me, this tournament is going down to Zaire Vs Cameroon. Brazil 82 have a small chance, but it's going to be hard to beat the African FLAIRINACS

Amen to that.

My one regret is life is that my hastily former and disbanded band The Mwepu Ilunga Manoeuvre never made it big (or to a single gig...)

I plumped for Arsenal over Zaire, with a heavy heart. However, I'm now pleased I did as both FLAIR outfits are sailing safely through.

How an earth is a side with Di Stefano, Puskas and Gento - some of the most flair players of all time - not walking this poll?
