Because he did one the other day and got stick for it. Do keep up.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but:
Hockley Blues didn't give him any stick
Hockley Blues has recieved a bit of stick himself.
Thus, there are no hypocrites

How exactly is it illegal for me to type out Brighton's fixtures in a pretty font? What breach of copyright am I commiting?

Seems like crap to me so I've emailed the FA directly with the following question:

Hello

I was wondering if you could help me. I would like to knock up a computer wallpaper showing Brighton's fixtures for next season against a picture of a Brighton player. Am I able to do this or is it covered by your copyright rule?
Also, If I then offered to give it free (with absolutely no financial gain or commercial aspect at all) to a couple of other Albion fans would this be allowed?

I'll let you know the answer.

A very well published and well penalised copyright - even quite a few peeps setting up objections to it:

Well....the official reply from the FA is that as long as we ask BHAFC nicely there's no problemat all! Seems like quite a few people who got hysterical about this with Adie owe him an apology.

Email from the football league:

Dear Lee

Your email has been forwarded to me by the Football League. As you will be aware, Football Fixture’s remain the copyright of the clubs. However although Football DataCo handles the fixtures on behalf of the leagues collectively, the use of one clubs fixtures remains the decision of the club. Please contact the media team at Brighton for permission to use their fixtures.

Kind Regards

Nice to know - however that is not how the wording of the Fa reads. Hence the website above...

Okay - we've got a website that says the FL don't allow people to do it and I've got an email from the FL that says that if I ask the club for THEIR (I think this is the loophole) permission for THEIR fixtures then it's okay.

As long as BHA say it's fine then no court in the land could prosecute me. I have emailed BHA (copying in the email from the FL) and will let you know!

Absolute hypocrisy.

You can, of course, write your own fixture list!!!

Once information is in the public domain (which the fixture list obviously is) anyone can redistribute that information as long as they recreate it themselves (i,e don't copy and paste anything, or write it in the same style as the original).

You can't copyright publicly-available information (despite the fact that they often try).

i just cannot understand this copyright. sure, the 'product' must remain the property of the organisers, i.e. the league, but the mere mention of the event? sheer lunacy.

umm...yes you're right.

No...you're wrong.

I've got no f***ing clue what's going on now. This reply from Tim Dudding at BHA:

Hi Lee,

I have spoken with the Football League and the information given to you by Dataco is not strictly true - you would still need a license.

Tim

We will actually be releasing official wallpapers in the near future, and we will be happy for you to link to these from NSC.

Hello

I hope I've come through to the right department. Could I please have permission to copy out Brighton's fixtures onto a suitably Albion background and stick it on Northstand Chat for fellow Albion fans to use as well?

I promise that there's no money in it for me.

Thankyou

Lee Burrows

Problem is the FL are going to claim you copied it directly, and didn't rewrite it, and there'll be a court case, etc, etc. They're abusing the law to charge money for something they shouldn't be allowed to charge for.

From my understanding each club is allowed to pick one fan site that is only charged £1 for a license. Well, this was the case a couple of years ago anyway...

What a load of fuss and BOLLOCKS about nothing.
Ive got a picture of a semi-naked Jessica ALBA twirling a ROPE for my wallpaper. If Im sat on my arse in front of a PC and I find at that moment I simply HAVE to know when the Albion play Walsall away, then Ill pop onto the official site and take a look.

Youll be telling me you;ve got TRAIN TIMETABLES set up as yer wallpaper next.

Typical of the FA - haven't got a clue themselves so hows the club supposed to know....to be honest TIm D. has got it more correct than the FA subbie...
