2004 - 2005 Pre-Season Frendlies

I don't know if this has been mentioned on NSC, but I was listening to Radio 5 Live yesterday (Monday) afternoon and caught a snippet of information. Think it was the Simon Mayo program, didn't like this guy on tv but he's not a bad interviewer on radio.

One of the guests on his program was the chairman of Weymouth. Mayo basically was commenting on his friendliness with other south coast chairmen, to which said chairman said that he "wasn't friendly with other chairman (most very aloof) but had spoken to Dick Knight and arranged a pre-season friendly".

The pattern for last few years has been local (Worthing, Crawley) and a tour to the West Country (Tiverton etc). Then the obligatory 1 home fixture (usually to a premier or first division club) before the big kick-off.

Was it Micky Adams that used to take the squad off to Ireland?

Wonder what others think of the pre-season preparations? (Ok I know this one is still very much alive).

Weymouth is ok for me, only on hour or so down the road. just hope for better luck when travelling west pre-season this time. Last year my exhaust fell off on the way to Yeovil!

I doubt we will be going accross the Irish sea again, not after the battle of Longford. Although Melton did produce one of the best fouls ever to start that punch up.

at home to a foreign outfit like a top Europeran club woodnt go a miss though friendlies are waste of time for the fan they are non competitive waste of time/money id rather go to say one saway game when seaosn starts then 10 frindley games

It was at Longford, as it was the only game of the tour we did and only saw 44 minutes of football. Still it was not a bad town for a after match drinking session. To make it weirder, Londfords kitman sorted the accomodation out for us.

Just continuing on this, according to this article from one of the Essex papers, it looks like we have a pre-season game at Sarfend.
