The money would have been swallowed up by a gigantic wages bill for paying 1st division salaries after relegation to the 2nd tier. We would have been the Portsmouth of the 83/84 season.

Robinson was definitely signed on a 10 year contract and I seem to remember but am not sure it was the same with Lawrenson.
