1981 has always been my fav year .
I met a girl in Ilfracombe and fell head over heels in love with her.
Still think about her 100 times a day.

Soppy old c@@t I am, but it was a cracking year.

Be fair, I was going to University and I was faced with bottled pumped milk. :jester:

I would love to have been older (than one) and around to watch Botham's Ashes. I've watched it all on DVD/replays and so on. As much as I enjoyed 2005, it does seem to pale in comparison a bit to the drama of '81.

Left school, Princess Di married the mad gardener (which meant me and some friends went on massive pub crawl), the Albion still playing in the top flight of English football. Got my first job and spent my first paycheck on a decent hi-fi. Had a booze cruise on the Norfolk broads with 6 friends.

Downside = Mullery walked out.

Royal Wedding - day off school!

Appalling England football team - defeat in Norway ("your boys took a hell of a beating etc.")

Some of the best and worst number ones - Specials' Ghost Town, Joe Dolce's Shaddap Your Face

Ronnie Reagan - cold war kicking in

3 years before I was born so I probably won't have too much input here.

My parents did get married that year though so it was a step towards my existence!

First (and only in the UK) time I got arrested. Girlfriend dumped me on the night of the royal wedding. Got pissed with a mate on gin (last time I drunk the stuff) and headed down the Lanes to take down some bunting..... pc constable got us before we could do much damage. Driven home with a warning and a clip round the ear from my stepdad.

Bad year.
