SHOREHAM BY SEA
Just seen this from Lawro’s score predictor clip ....first I’ve heard of it....40 years ..blimey!

Well i’ll definitely be getting there early to see that

‘’I am at the Amex Stadium on Saturday for a 40th anniversary reunion with the Brighton team that got promoted to the top flight in 1979.

We will be on the pitch before the game and then there is a party afterwards. It should be a great day and I am really looking forward to seeing some old friends.

Newcastle were the opposition when we won promotion at St James' Park for the first time in the club's history with a 3-1 win on the last day of the season, in front of more than 10,000 Seagulls fans who had made the long journey north. It was a fabulous occasion.

I know Brighton have not scored in their past seven games but I think there could a little bit of fate involved here with the Magpies the opposition again, and this time a win would help them take a huge step towards staying in the Premier League.
T
I am sure there will be a lot of celebrating afterwards if that is what happens, although I will not be partying too hard - I will be up bright and early because I am travelling to Turf Moor on Sunday to cover Burnley versus Manchester City.’’

Lawro's prediction: 1-0

Ps he has Cardiff. To lose 2/1

Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
I was just a young twenty-three year old whippersnapper when I went to this. One of the greatest memories of supporting the Albion, and I've got quite a few. The day after at the Goldstone was epic too. The North Stand was packed, and the singing was as if there was a match on, rather than just the team's lap of honour around a ploughed up pitch!

One of my most prized posessions is the programme from that game signed by the Albion team.

I went to this with a mate from college - wonderful day it was, too. I recall all the coaches were not allowed into Newcastle until nearer the match time, so we were all dumped off in a little place outside (can't remember the name of it), and the curtains were twitching as thousands of Brighton fans were roaming the streets and singing, at about 7am.

:lolol:

I've heard these accounts. Must have set off very early.

I was 10 and on my first weekend away. Although this was a church hall camp in Horsted Keynes.

I used a lot of two penny bits calling home as I was homesick and couldn't take to being away. On one such occasion I was informed of the score so it brought much cheer.

I drove a Mk1 Ford Escort estate from Worthing to Newcastle and back for that game. Must make sure to be at the ground in good time for this on Saturday .

Went up in a mini van overnight with a group. Spent the morning in the pub with some friendly Geordies who were totally conflicted about the game as they were desperate for Sunderland not to go up. Ended up watching the game from the home end with them.

Ooh, I'll get there early for that, it would be good to see that team again. Will Gerry Ryan be there, he wasn't in great health last I heard?

That Newcastle game is one of my big regrets in life. I was at uni then and had to gone to every away game up north but I was torn for that game as I also had a hot date lined up for Saturday night. In the end I didn't go ... and was stood up anyway. It was a lesson in life: put more trust in the Albion than in women :)

Unlike tomorrow I went to that game with a happy heart expecting to sweep Newcastle aside. I was totally confident of a win. What a day it was.

Funny, one of mine was part of the penalty spot at the Brighton end, which I uprooted when we went on pitch after the game I took it back to Burgess Hill and planted it in my parents garden, where I lovingly watered it and watched itt grow!

Unfortunately my parents didn’t have quite the same affinity with my trophy, as it got paved over!

You lot sicken me.
It's hardly surprising we have shot shy strikers when the fans can't even hit an open goal:-
