the biggest difference in the game itself is the amount of overseas players

back in the 70's spurs bought ardiles and villa after the 78 world cup which was massive news back then

ipswich had a couple of dutch players

No standing, no smelly toilets, no cheap tea in plastic cups, no cloth caps, no decent goalies, no fencing round the pitch, no programmes you can put in your pocket, no Fred the Argus, no originality from the North Stand, no crappy floodlights, no Peter Ward (well, not playing anyway).
We now have a better Stadium, but I wouldn't say our prospects are any better now than they were then. We had an up and coming team with a progressive manager who got us to the promised land. Our gates were pretty good then as well - all jammed into the Goldstone to make a tremendous atmosphere. I was one of the lucky ones to live through those times - times that I never thought possible when I started watching them in 1962.
I really hope that all the promise and expectation we have today comes to fruition so that more fans can experience what it's like to support a club in the top division and see their team at Wembley in the FA Cup Final.

ALL what everybody else has said,plus the smell of cigar smoke wafting across the West Stand,and for me, the walk back over Hove Park to where my white Ford Capri was parked,then driving back to Reigate to celebrate or drown sorrows............usually celebrating in those days!
