The Large One

Not getting something for nothing.
I don't doubt it, but would that be an issue?

To some yes, 1901 is seen by many as an elite "club" in which you have to be wealthy to be a member. It is often overlooked that many 1901 members are in fact "normal" fans who have elected to spend considerably more money than us and this will, inevitably, breed a them and us scenario.
I'm not sure of your point here.
Going by that email that Giraffe posted, this is about the service, as paying customers, the 1901 members receive - and what they can expect to receive in future.
It doesn't have anything to do with those who aren't 1901 members.
The only thing I find disturbing is the short notice. How many people on here can commit to something 8.30-9.30am when asked 36 hours before? More than a little bizarre.
That said, I think you've hit the on the head!!! I'm in a seriously mardy mood, and the odd thing is, I'm not sure why. Might just log off for a bit and go for a walk.......

I'm just not keen on what Barber's doing in general. It seems that since he's joined us, everything has become all about extracting those extra few quid from peoples already strained wallets.......
Short notice, working day, early morning = lip service & can tick box re 'liaision'

Could you sum up the specific things that Barber has done that you are not keen on?
With regards this meeting, it seems quite clear that Mr Barber is trying to get feedback from the Gold 1901 members who have expressed dissatisfaction with what they are getting. Surely that has to be counted a a positive thing, actually trying to deal with customer issues. You never know, at a later date , he might also try to deal with other issues that affect you. Would that be seen as a bad thing, in such a cynical light, or do you want the bad things to carry on so as you have something to complain about?
I appreciate my second paragraph might not garner sympathy, however, please concentrate on my first point. Just what has he done that you are not keen on? Remember, he had nothing to do with price increases, the new programme or the Chelsea game.
So 1901 members get breakfast and a tour, meanwhile us plebs in the stands get bugger all. Sounds typical of the way the club's going I suppose, forget about the real fans and focus on the money from the prawn sarnie brigade. Bet they'll probably sell the idea of matchday mascots at this breakfast.
The 1901 members have paid a hefty whack for their services - and some if not most, it seems, aren't happy; so a breakfast where they're invited to offer comments on the services they receive would be deemed a good idea, I'd have thought. So if you're not a 1901 member, why are you bothered?
Well said. Personally I am finding this wave of cynacism that now greets every communication from the club a bit wearing.

Got to admit, I'm not keen on charging for mascots, i think it's a bit tight to be fair.
And with regards to the price increases, programme and the Chelsea game, although he wasn't in situ for those, he will almost certainly have been involved. For a job like his, you don't just "start", he will have had a period of several weeks or months before the announcements were made, where he would have either had his advice sought, or will have been directly involved.
I just think he represents a moving away from a football club that caters for the fans, to a business commodity that is sustainable in the higher end of British football. As much as i want to see the club be successful, and that it is a necessary evil, it is sad to see that we have to go that way and "sell out".
Again, if you listen to his interview he makes it all very clear what the club has to do in order to reach its goals, and how he, and the board, will achieve that without "selling out".
As for not catering for fans, really? You think that? We have one of the best stadiums in the country (and the World), it has the best stadium facilities I have ever experienced. It was built for us. We have the option to eat and drink good quality products, rather than the shite most football clubs foist upon their fans. Season ticket holders get superb value, and a ground breaking, interest free DD payment system. The fans can arrive early and stay after games and mingle with friends and away fans alike. The club subsidises public transport and park and ride. Oh, and the seats are padded. Show me a comparable football club that caters more for fans than the Albion.
I guess if you hanker after League One, 5000 crowds, The Johnstone Paint Trophy and Scunthorpe on a Tuesday night, then perhaps the Albion isn't for you. Before Archer, and ever since DK and MP took over this club, the aim has been high, the aim has been to get the Albion to the top flight, which is why Falmer was built, which is why TB took over. Dick Knight could have settled for trying to redevelop Withdean, could have built Falmer stand by stand over 10 years, we could have become perennial under achievers, occasionally in the Championship, with a 10K capacity ground and no real ambition.
OK, I’ll give you charging for mascots, seems a shame, but surely that can’t be a reason for garnering such a vehement dislike for someone who has hardly got his feet under the table, but has in fact reduced prices once already, and has called a meeting to discuss issues directly with the [1901 Gold] fans.
