1901 Club - Your thoughts so far?

I either don't know or have forgotten: what's the deal with what lounge you have access to?

If two mates had seats at opposite ends of the WSM, would they be in different lounges based on their seat location and not able to meet and chat pre-match and at half-time?

Technically. But as long as there are not dozens 'at it' the rules are pretty flexible. Officially you can get a 'day pass' into any lounge.

It feels like more of a hindrance than a privilege to drive to the stadium at the moment. It is nice being able to drive home. But sitting in your car for 45 minutes after every game, just because a) you don't leave early and b) don't want to stay for an hour and a half after the game, really isn't much fun. Especially when it's totally avoidable with some simple management.

Although to be fair, and it's been mentioned before, you're entitled to a space ( which you have ) not a quick getaway.

I find it ok , not too much waiting for toilet or beer , there could be a better variety of fast food if you want it , don't go for the sit down meal at the moment . You also get your free cup tickets as well , and no hanging on the phone for ages , playing Gillingham , Liverpool and Sunderland it's been great value so far with the FA Cup to come , fingers crossed we have a good run and home games too. I have the free rail and bus travel with my ticket , always go to the game this way , bit of queing sometimes but i would rather that than have a 7000 crowd , near enough to the away fans in the WSM to have some banter , of the reasonable kind hahaha .

With the massive improvement in the catering in the last few weeks, I'm pretty happy. If I was ever in a hurry to get away I suppose Bennetts Field would annoy me but I rarely am and when I am I catch the train.

I'm happy too. Mind you my parking space is at the University. Left at the final whistle on Sunday, (4:55 ish) and indoors at Mile Oak at 5:20. Never have any problems with the University car parks although I appreciate its a bit further to walk but it does clear very quickly. Overall I think the 1901 is good value. Nice to disappear into a nice warm lounge with seating before and after the game and very small q's for the loos.

Negatives:
•A worse atmosphere
Because it's such a mix of regular fans and corporates, it creates a weird tension sometimes. I got told off for saying shit. True story.

•A restrictive dress code
I know this has been covered a million times. But having to wear collar & shoes is a little bit much. Especially when the women in there seem to be able to wear what the hell they like..

Although, to be fair, there does seem to be a dress code all over the stadium.............................. and it is this

I'm very happy in the Profile Lounge. I wanted an easy and relaxed match-day without fuss and having to queue for ages for food, drinks and loos etc. I get all this. There are other little perks like the parking (we use SU which has been fine) but I now get the train home after a drink in the lounge. The 1901 rececption desk is also handy for leaving mates tickets at; means I don't have to hang around waiting for people. Even when they didn't have any Balti pies I asked politely and a nice young lady got me some.

All the folk around me are at all games and seem to be fans first and foremost.

I'm booked in for the fine-dining experience against Cov; looking forward to it given Merry P's comments.

The view is fantastic as I sit on the half way line.

All good. Very good.

So, now we're a little way into the season, what are everyone's thoughts on the 1901 Club? Do you think it's worth the extra cash?

Here's my thoughts:

Positives:

• Queue times
  The main advantage as far as I can see it are the lack of queues. The service at the bar is quick and the toilet queue is never more than a couple of minutes.
• Bar-to-seat distance
  About 10m. Nice.
• Free programmes

Negatives:

• A worse atmosphere

Overall, I really don't see that I'm getting anywhere near what you'd call value for money. At the moment it just seems like you pay for a nicer bar and arm rests. If the car park emptied at a reasonable rate, it would be worth the money on it's own.

In short, if I'd have known what it was going to be like I don't think I'd have bothered.

What are your thoughts on it?

Pretty much as I feel + 2 others who sit around me. I'm in the Profile Lounge.

This...especially as I have bought over a £100 of club shirts and kids can walk around with them on. Also if not dining having to sit on a hard window sill. But getting cup tickets free is a huge bonus. Drinks highly priced. One pint of Amstel and a double vodka and tonic...£11.60,don't expect club prices,my club that comes to under £5 but that is a bit steep...and my biggest beef....NO GUINNESS or any heavy beers! Have a great seat,do not have to get up for corperate late returns,have stacks of leg room.Has it's good and bad points like everything but the good outweighs the bad!

Plenty of people had words. It was getting very tense. Stewards should have removed the individual.

I believe there was a 1901 email stating that away fans celebrating "unecessarily" would be removed.

Not on that occasion though it seems.
