When Barber first joined The Albion, he stated he had read Build a Bonfire in order to get a feel as to what kind of Football Club we were. I would suggest he never digested the contents and he needs to read the book again.

The so called Community Club ethos is fast disappearing and being replaced by BHA plc. The feelgood factor and fans goodwill is being eroded by the direction the club is moving. Those programme notes on Saturday were patronising beyond belief. Barbers "stop whining and support the team" moment?

If Barber has read 'Build a Bonfire' , he will be well aware of what happened to the last CE who rode roughshod over the fans..........

I do not believe he has read it though. When asked (think it was on Albion roar) he gave the idea he has dipped into it from time to time on a reference basis and not read it cover to cover.

What difference would it make if he did ?

The fact is whether fans like it or not the club was always going to move on and evolve when the Amex era started. The fact that what has been created in the 1901 club is not to everyones taste is neither here nor there at the end of the day as the only view appears to sit with profit which I suppose at the end of the day is probably correct given the aspiration Bloom has of Premiership football.

Providing we continue to play attractive football and flirt with play-off or auto promotion then there will be a huge captive audience which is what the club know and are gearing to. The major test would be a bland season and possible relegation which would then test the metal of fans patience on costs.

We live the dream for now and yes it is very good and personally most issues regarding food / quality are no issue to me as I do not eat around the times the games are played. What will test the resolve of fans more is the cost of the season ticket and the travel tax which I expect will head towards £100 eventually. Other niggles like £1 a ticket booking fee are neither here nor there really in the bigger picture.

Before we moved to the Amex I was told by someone that from now on forget everything that the club was at that point because from now on its a totally different club and will be run as a business.

They have been spot on

The club are now trying to find the tipping point just before where fans will say enough is enough and stop going. It's number of fans that count not loyalty or vocal support. Away supporters and armchair viewers are just and important as home support and your season ticket is not enough alone you need to spend another £30-50 at the ground too

I think they have gone beyond the tipping point in 1901!

I think we all agree that the club would and should evolve at the AMEX. I do not think this thread is suggesting otherwise. If anything this thread is about people wanting to join in with this evolution but not being able to because basis sanity prohibits you parting with money for such poor quality products. And in some cases it is impossible to part with money even if you wanted to because of the inability of the kiosk staff. And it is not a case of the 1901 not being to everyone's tastes....it is to virtually no ones taste which makes no sense to the supporters or Barber's profit margin.

But of course it affects you. If no one stays late at the ground because of the food and drink situattion the trains, buses and car parks will be much worse. If match day revenues plummet then the playing budget drops, the team gets worse, less people go, revenue falls again, team gets worse etc., etc..

Probably nothing. I was simply pointing out that he has not read the book. Personally I do not care which literature Barber reads or does not read.

Comparing the quality of food and overall service at the Withdean portakabin with that provided at the Amex by Azure/TLG/Sodexo, is an insult to Hardings.

Queues still seemed horrendous particularly post match in WSU, why they didn't have the Pie and Pint kiosk open I've no idea.

Well I do, they want to encourage us to go to the North Stand. That's for pint 2 or 3 Paul.

Barber's notes

I'm sorry but he really is an IDIOT if he cannot work out why people might want to eat and drink elsewhere before the game, the service, quality and value for money at the stadium is dire!

Agree totally. They produced good food that people wanted.

I was in 1901 on Saturday. Not only is £19 a pisstake for curry, but you have to walk up to the counter yourself and have it slopped onto your plate, school dinner style, before making your way back to your table. No service whatsoever.

It was nice to have a decent pint in a glass, and the seats for the match were very good, but there is no way I would pay out of my own pocket for the experience (plus people kept turning round and looking at me when I got a little excited during the game, as if they'd never been to football before).

"In recent weeks I've heard talk of some supporters wanting to eat and drink outside our stadium. To be honest, I'm not sure why."

Well, Paul, I've never stepped foot in 1901 but I would feel pretty confident in answering that one. Just look at the photos and prices posted on here and then compare them to menus of almost any restaurant in Brighton on a Saturday lunchtime. If I were a 1901 member I would find that comment extremely concerning, as it suggests he is not even close to the 'identifying the problem' stage yet.

The only problem are the ungrateful fans who won't let parts of the club fleece them until the pips squeak.

People have a choice and to try and use language like he did to 'persuade' them is not going to work.

Between the family and friends we did a couple of shirt sponsors dinners and a corporate game day thingy and Hardings were exceptional. For doing it in a temp kitchen makes it even more admirable. It also shows how poor sodexo are with their zillion chefs and spanking new, purpose built kitchens.

Must be the most expensive curry in Brighton. Ashoka do a great King Prawn Jalfrezi - one of their most expensive dishes - for 5 pounds less.

Were Hardings top notch from day 1?

As much as Sodexo haven't started well and seem unlikely to turn it around, partly due to the refusal of many to say 'wow I was loud wrong 3 months ago'.
They deserve time to prove they are sh*te before jumping on the band wagon.
